How to connect PSVR2 to PS5
Before you connect
Use the USB Type-C cable supplied with PS VR2 and the USB-C port on the front of a PlayStation 5. Sony’s setup page says to update PS5 system software first and use the included DualSense controller for the on-screen instructions. Do not use the PS VR2 PC adapter, DisplayPort cable or SteamVR for this console connection. For a full first-session walkthrough—including fit, Sense controller pairing, eye tracking and play-area setup—see How to set up PSVR2.
Connect the headset
- Save your work and finish updating the PS5 system software if an update is available.
- With the PS5 in a safe, accessible position, plug the supplied PS VR2 USB Type-C cable into the USB-C port on the front of the console. Do not force the connector or substitute an unverified adapter.
- Press the PS5 power button, then press the headset’s power button.
- Check that the headset cable between the scope and headband is firmly inserted, as Sony instructs.
- Use the DualSense controller to follow the prompt shown on the PS5 screen. Continue with the separate setup guide if this is the headset’s first use.
Connection check: the headset should power on and the PS5 should present its on-screen PS VR2 instructions. If it does not, continue with the low-risk checks below rather than repeating the whole onboarding procedure.
If the PS5 does not detect the headset
- Turn the PS5 off normally. Do not disconnect a cable while moving around with the headset on.
- Check that the supplied cable is seated in the console’s front USB-C port and that the headset cable between the scope and headband is fully inserted. Look for visible damage; do not bend, pry or force a connector.
- Reconnect the cable, start the PS5 and headset again, and check whether the on-screen setup prompt appears.
- If the PS5 still does not detect the headset, use Sony’s PS VR2 troubleshooting page or PlayStation Support. Do not open the headset or attempt an internal repair.
If the cable connection works but a Sense controller will not pair, follow Sony’s PS5 pairing steps in the full setup guide. If the issue is a boundary, fit or tracking symptom, use the PSVR2 tracking guide instead.
PS5 connection versus PC use
On PS5, the headset connects by its supplied USB-C cable directly to the console. Windows PC use is a separate system that requires Sony’s PS VR2 PC adapter, direct USB 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 connections, and the PlayStation VR2 App plus SteamVR. See How to set up the PSVR2 PC adapter; do not apply its wiring instructions to a PS5.
