How to set up the PSVR2 PC adapter
Before you start
Sony lists an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later), at least 8 GB RAM, a compatible dedicated GPU, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 or later as minimum requirements. The graphics output must be a standard or Mini DisplayPort on the GPU: DisplayPort over USB-C is not compatible. Sony recommends an RTX 3060 or later or RX 6600 XT or later for best performance. You also need the official PSVR2 PC adapter and a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, sold separately. See Sony's requirements page before buying cables or adapters.
Safety and space: clear furniture, pets and trip hazards before putting on the headset. Use room lighting that helps tracking and keep curtains closed to avoid direct sunlight. Keep the headset and its cables away from heat and moisture; do not open the headset or adapter.
Actionable setup steps
- Install the PC software. Install Steam, then install SteamVR and Sony's PlayStation VR2 App from Steam. The PSVR2 App handles PC setup and headset/controller firmware; keep it installed after setup.
- Pair both Sense controllers. Turn on Bluetooth and disconnect USB cables from the controllers. Hold PS + Create on the left controller, and PS + Options on the right, until each status light blinks. In Windows Bluetooth settings, add and pair each controller separately. Charge them first if needed; if a light stops blinking, repeat that controller's pairing step.
- Connect the adapter directly. Plug the adapter into a USB 3.0 Type-A port on the PC—no hub or extension cable. Connect a DisplayPort 1.4 cable directly from the adapter to the PC's DisplayPort, not an HDMI or USB-C conversion adapter. Connect the supplied AC adapter and power cord, then plug the cord into an outlet. Sony says the adapter light is solid red when powered without a connected headset.
- Connect and turn on PSVR2. Plug the headset into the adapter's USB-C port and press the headset power button. A solid white adapter light indicates that the adapter is on and the headset is connected and ready. Open PlayStation VR2 App and follow its on-screen instructions.
- Finish the first-use setup. Connect headphones if wanted, prepare the controllers, adjust the headset fit and lens dial, and scan a clear play area. Follow the app's prompts for floor height and boundaries. The headset's function button is used during the documented setup; do not walk around until the area is defined.
Informational: what runs where
The adapter carries PSVR2 to the Windows PC; SteamVR is the PC runtime for compatible Steam VR games. The PlayStation VR2 App is also PC software distributed through Steam. Neither this procedure installs SteamVR on the PSVR2 headset, and it does not replace the separate PS5 setup.
Low-risk checks if it fails
- If the app says to check USB, reconnect the adapter directly to the same USB 3.0 port, then try another USB 3.0 port on the motherboard. Do not force connectors.
- If there is no display, re-seat both ends of the DisplayPort cable and confirm it is DisplayPort 1.4 or higher and connected directly to the GPU. HDMI-to-DisplayPort and USB-C-to-DisplayPort conversion is not supported by Sony.
- In PlayStation VR2 App, check the connection. If SteamVR reports an error, turn off the headset and PC, start the PC, then the headset, and retry. Update the GPU driver; if the newest driver causes trouble, Sony says trying the previous driver may help.
- For Bluetooth trouble, install the adapter maker's driver. Sony recommends placing an external adapter in a USB 2.0 port away from the USB 3.0 connection. If these checks do not help, use PlayStation Support's troubleshooting guide rather than opening hardware or performing an unlisted reset.
