Meta Quest 3 vs PlayStation VR2

Short answer: choose Meta Quest 3 if you want a standalone headset that can also connect to a Windows PC. Choose PlayStation VR2 if your priority is PS5 VR and an OLED display with eye tracking, or if you already have a suitable PC and accept the adapter and cable requirements. Neither is a simple substitute for the other: their host platforms and software stores differ. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Tradeoffs that matter

Standalone freedom: Quest 3 can run native Quest software without a console, and Meta describes backwards compatibility with the existing Quest library in its October 2023 launch software overview. That is a platform-library statement, not a claim that every title has identical features or performance. PS VR2's native experience is tied to PS5 and PS VR2-compatible games; Sony explicitly says original PS VR games are not compatible.

Display and sensing: Quest 3 uses pancake lenses and LCD, while PS VR2 uses OLED and includes eye tracking, headset vibration, controller haptics and adaptive triggers. Those are documented hardware/features differences; comfort, clarity and game feel depend on fit, eyesight, software and individual preference, so this page does not score them.

PC VR: These are different routes into the broad PC VR category. Meta's Link requirements call for Windows 10/11, at least an Intel i5-4590 or Ryzen 5 1500X, 8 GB RAM and a supported GPU, plus a USB port for wired Link; Air Link adds a wireless-network variable. Sony's PS VR2 PC requirements call for Windows 10/11, at least an i5-7600 or Ryzen 3 3100, 8 GB RAM, a supported GPU, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 or later, plus the PS VR2 PC adapter and a DisplayPort cable. Sony states that HDR, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and most headset/controller haptics are unavailable on PC.

Questions

Can Quest 3 and PS VR2 play the same games?

Not as a general rule. Meta and Sony describe separate Quest and PlayStation VR2 ecosystems. Some cross-platform games exist, but title-by-title compatibility is unverified here; check the individual store listing.

Does PS VR2 work with a PC?

Yes, with Sony's PS VR2 PC adapter, a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, Steam, SteamVR and a PC meeting Sony's requirements. Sony documents feature differences on PC, including unavailable HDR and eye tracking.

Is either headset wireless?

Quest 3 supports wireless Air Link as well as wired Link according to Meta's Link documentation. PS VR2's PS5 connection is a USB-C cable; wireless PC operation is unverified by the cited Sony requirements.
