How to use PSVR2 with a PC

Short answer: Once the official adapter and PlayStation VR2 App are set up, start SteamVR, press the PS button on a Sense controller to open its dashboard, and launch a SteamVR-compatible game. This guide covers the post-setup PC session; adapter installation is covered separately. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Before launching a game

This walkthrough assumes the PC adapter is already wired and the headset has completed its first setup. If not, follow How to set up the PSVR2 PC adapter first; it covers Windows requirements, Steam and app installation, controller pairing, adapter cabling and the first play-area scan.

Check that Steam, SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App are installed and that the headset is connected. Sony’s PC requirements call for a compatible Windows PC, the official adapter, DisplayPort 1.4, direct USB 3.0 and Bluetooth. Use Sony’s requirements page if you are unsure whether the computer or adapter is supported.

Start a PC VR session

  1. Turn on the PC and headset, then confirm the adapter and headset show as connected in the PlayStation VR2 App. The app does not need to be opened every time after initial setup, but it is useful for checking device status, firmware updates and play-area settings.
  2. Open Steam and launch SteamVR.
  3. Put on the headset only after the play area is clear. Press the PS button on either Sense controller to open the SteamVR dashboard. Use a Sense controller to navigate; Sony documents L2 or R2 as the select action.
  4. Launch a VR title that supports SteamVR from the dashboard or Steam library. If a title does not offer a VR mode, check that game’s current Steam listing or publisher support rather than assuming every PC game is compatible.

Useful controls and PC-specific limits

If the game or headset does not respond

Check that SteamVR sees the headset and both controllers, and confirm the title supports SteamVR. If the headset disconnects, check the adapter and direct USB/DisplayPort connections using the PSVR2 connection troubleshooting guide. For poor tracking, use Sony’s PC play-area controls rather than the PS5 settings menu. For a PC-specific error, see Sony’s PSVR2 PC troubleshooting page. Do not open the headset or use an unofficial driver as a shortcut.
