Meta Quest 3S: specs, storage options and PC VR support
Official specifications
| Item | Meta Quest 3S detail |
|---|---|
| Announcement and availability | Meta announced Quest 3S on September 25, 2024 and said it became available for purchase on October 15, 2024. |
| U.S. storage options and listed prices | 128GB at $349.99 and 256GB at $449.99 on Meta's product page when checked. These are U.S. storefront prices, not a promise of regional availability or a future price. |
| Processor and memory | Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and 8GB RAM. Meta describes its graphics processing as twice Quest 2's; that comparison is the manufacturer's claim. |
| Display | 1,832 × 1,920 pixels per eye; 72Hz, 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rates are listed by Meta. |
| Optics and adjustment | Fresnel lenses with three lens-spacing positions. Meta identifies the setting as interaxial distance (IAD). |
| Field of view | 96° horizontal by 90° vertical, according to Meta. |
| Mixed reality | Full-colour passthrough using two RGB cameras. Meta claims 4.5 times the passthrough resolution of Quest 2; this is its comparison, not an independent measurement. |
| Headset weight | 514g on Meta's current product specification page. The figure is manufacturer-published; accessories and individual fit are separate considerations. |
| Battery runtime | Meta lists an average runtime of up to 2.5 hours, with results varying by activity. It is not a guaranteed session length. |
| PC support | Meta Horizon Link by USB-C cable or Air Link over Wi-Fi; a compatible Windows PC is required for PC VR. |
Specifications, prices and runtime above are attributed to Meta. Product pages can change, and regional listings may differ. Meta's average battery figure is a published estimate rather than a promise for every game or session.
Where Quest 3S sits beside Quest 3
Quest 3S has the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform generation as Quest 3 but uses Fresnel lenses and a lower-resolution display. Quest 3 uses pancake optics and a 2,064 × 2,208-pixel-per-eye display. The Quest 3S page lists 128GB and 256GB versions; Meta's U.S. Quest 3 page listed a 512GB model at the time of our check. Use the side-by-side Quest 3 vs Quest 3S comparison if you are choosing between them.
Meta describes Quest 3S as compatible with the Quest app and game library and says Quest 3/3S-exclusive games are supported. This does not mean every title has identical image quality, performance or feature support. Check the individual app listing for current device compatibility before buying for one game.
Standalone play and PC VR are different setups
Standalone Quest apps run on the headset and do not require a PC. For PC VR, Meta's setup guide describes a USB-C Link cable or wireless Air Link. The company recommends a 5GHz Wi-Fi network for Air Link and says its Link cable should support data and power; its setup page gives cable specifications and connection steps.
- For a native Quest game, compare the headset storage with the size of the apps you intend to install.
- For PC VR, check Meta's current supported-GPU and system requirements rather than assuming every gaming PC will work.
- Meta says the box includes a glasses spacer. Try the headset fit if possible; this page is not a hands-on comfort review.
