Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate
Which VR edition should you buy?
| Edition | What the official listing confirms | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest | Native app for Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro; single user; sitting, standing, or roomscale | Playing without a gaming PC |
| Steam | VR-only Windows PC title; SteamVR or Oculus PC; Vive wands are not currently supported | Playing on a Windows PC |
| PlayStation | PS5 version; PlayStation VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers required | PS5 owners with PSVR2 |
The platform listings describe the same time-travel remake, but they are not interchangeable purchases. Meta's listing identifies its supported Quest headsets and says an internet connection is not required. The Steam listing is a Windows PC VR product with its own computer requirements. PlayStation labels its product PS5 and explicitly says PSVR2 is required. A Quest headset used to view Steam VR is therefore a PC-streaming setup, not the native Quest edition.
What kind of game is it?
You play Asher Neumann and move between historical eras to rewrite history. The official developer description calls out physics-driven interaction and multiple locomotion methods: swimming, jumping, crouching, climbing, ziplines, and swinging. The core loop combines action, exploration, and escape-room-style puzzles. Objects can be carried across time, so a tool found in one era may help solve a problem in another. Combat is also rebuilt around new weapons, ammunition types, and enemy behaviours.
The remake adds three new levels, larger and extended levels, full-body avatars, mirror systems, advanced haptics, and an overhauled watch companion named Samuel. Samuel's new storage and time-travel features include the Echo Diviner and Echo Vaults for locating lost items. These are game-specific reasons to choose this page over a generic “how to run PC VR” guide; they also explain why the edition and controller details matter.
Native Quest: install and choose it when
Use the official Meta Quest listing if you want the standalone application. It lists Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro, with supported play styles of sitting, standing, and roomscale, and supported controllers. Meta lists 10.3 GB of space, a Moderate comfort level, and no internet connection requirement. That makes this the clearest route when you do not want to maintain a Windows VR computer. The listing does not publish a PC-style graphics requirement or promise identical rendering to the PC/PSVR2 versions, so do not use Steam's GPU figures to judge the native app.
Steam PC VR: check the computer first
The official Steam store page marks the game VR Only and lists SteamVR or Oculus PC support. Its minimum requirements are 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X equivalent, 16 GB RAM, an Nvidia RTX 2070 8 GB equivalent, DirectX 12, and 50 GB of storage. An SSD is required. Recommended specifications rise to an Intel Core i9-11900K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X equivalent and an Nvidia RTX 3080 12 GB equivalent, while memory, DirectX, and storage remain 16 GB, DirectX 12, and 50 GB.
Steam specifically warns that higher resolution and refresh rate can affect performance, especially with a Meta Quest over the Link cable, and that GPUs with under 10 GB VRAM may struggle in heavy scenes because of Link's VRAM overhead. It also says Vive wands are not currently supported and suggests launching Oculus VR mode from Steam options for better performance when using that route. These are official store notes, not a VRHow performance test; actual results can vary with headset settings and PC configuration.
PS5 and PSVR2: the console route
On PlayStation, the official game page identifies the product as PS5 and requires a PlayStation VR2 headset plus PS VR2 Sense controllers. It supports sitting, standing, and roomscale play. PlayStation also lists optional headset vibration, controller vibration, and trigger effects. Its accessibility information documents adjustable difficulty, pausing, and manual saving, plus subtitles for the main story and main characters; it says the game can be played without subtitles because it does not include spoken dialogue. Roomscale play requires a minimum 2 m × 2 m play area according to the page.
PlayStation lists Standard and Deluxe editions. Deluxe includes an Electronica mixtape, a Neon Sky Woodrock 'n Roll song, an Asher skin, several watch skins, and a Rackham's Musket skin. Those are cosmetic or bonus inclusions listed by PlayStation, not a different VR mode.
Practical buying guidance
- Choose Meta Quest for a native, PC-free install on one of the four Quest models Meta lists.
- Choose Steam only if your Windows PC meets the published minimum and you have a supported PC VR control path. A Quest connected to that PC is still playing the PC edition.
- Choose PS5 only if you have PSVR2 and Sense controllers; the console listing does not describe a non-VR PS5 mode.
VRHow has not independently tested performance, compatibility, comfort, or loading times. Store availability, prices, and software menus can change. The official sources do not establish cross-buy or cross-save between Meta, Steam, and PlayStation, so treat each store listing as its own purchase unless the platform explicitly says otherwise.
