Wanderer (2022): the original VR time-travel adventure
First, choose the right Wanderer
There are two distinct products with similar names. The original Wanderer is the 2022 game on Steam, app 1599560. Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate is a later remake, separately listed on Steam as app 2472940; its publisher describes it as a remake and gives it its own platform editions and requirements. Do not carry the remake's Quest model list, PC requirements, PS VR2 feature claims, or redesigned mechanics over to the original. Check the complete title and store listing before installing or buying. Steam's original-game listing, Steam's remake listing, and the publisher's remake press kit treat them as separate products.
What the original game is about
The original is a single-player time-travel adventure played as Asher Neumann. The developer's legacy press kit describes an alternate, apocalyptic timeline, a search for Asher's grandfather's apartment and artefacts, and a wristwatch that lets him move through time and space. Its signature loop mixes escape-room puzzles with tactile object interaction and action sequences: items and events from different eras can be brought together to solve problems. The publisher calls out settings including a World War II code-breaking sequence, Nikola Tesla's experiments, a 1969 concert and a 1500s-era defence of a kingdom. These specifics are the original game's premise; they are not a generic description of the later remake. Read the official legacy press kit.
Which VR platform does the official record support?
| Route | What the official source confirms | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Steam on Windows PC | Steam marks the original VR Supported, lists tracked-controller support and names SteamVR in its system requirements. | This is the PC edition. The published computer requirements below are not standalone-headset specifications. |
| PlayStation VR | The developer's official legacy platform list names PS VR. | The sources checked do not establish a native PS VR2 edition or PS5-specific feature set for the original. |
| Oculus | The developer's legacy platform list names Oculus. | The source does not specify current headset models or standalone Quest support; do not infer either from the broad platform label. |
For a Quest owner, the important distinction is between an officially documented standalone app and a PC game viewed through a headset. The checked sources identify Steam VR, PS VR and Oculus for the original, but do not establish a native standalone Quest release or guarantee Link/Air Link compatibility with a modern Quest model. Verify your exact headset and current PC-streaming route before relying on it; do not substitute the remake's Quest listing for evidence about this original. The publisher's legacy platform list and the original Steam listing are edition-specific sources.
Steam PC requirements
Steam's current listing gives the following requirements for the original PC release. These are the publisher-provided store specifications, not a VRHow performance benchmark or a promise that every headset will run smoothly.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 | Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or greater |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon RX 580 or greater | NVIDIA RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5600-XT or greater |
| Storage | 30 GB | 40 GB; SSD recommended |
| VR runtime | SteamVR | |
Check the live Steam requirements for Wanderer app 1599560 before purchase because store information can change. Do not use the remake's substantially different requirements to assess the original. Steam also identifies tracked-controller support and single-player play. The official pages do not provide a complete, current headset model matrix or frame-rate target, so this guide does not infer performance from the minimum specification.
Is the original a good fit for you?
- Consider it if you want: a VR-only, single-player story built around time-travel puzzles, tactile interactions, historical settings and action set pieces. The developer's official description emphasizes hands-on problem-solving and moving objects or events between periods.
- Check the platform first if you own a console: the official legacy source names PS VR for the original. It does not substantiate a PS VR2-native version, so do not assume the remake's PS5/PS VR2 support applies.
- Check the PC first if you want Steam VR: compare your computer with the original app's Windows requirements, install the runtime the store lists, and verify your headset's present-day PC connection separately.
- Do not buy it expecting a standalone Quest install: the official sources checked identify Steam VR, PS VR and Oculus, but do not confirm a native Quest app for the original. The remake is a different listing.
VRHow has not independently tested performance, comfort, compatibility, tracking or loading. The original and remake have different editions and requirements; official sources checked here do not establish cross-buy, cross-save, or current streaming compatibility for every headset. Prices and store availability can change.
