The publisher, Vertigo Games, lists Steam, Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2 as the three purchase destinations on its official game page. Those are distinct store editions: a Quest purchase is the standalone app, while the Steam listing is the PC version. Streaming a Steam copy to a Quest headset is PC VR, not a native Quest installation.
What you do in the game
Vertigo describes an adventure set in Stauf Mansion, where six guests have been invited and the mystery is to discover who the seventh guest is. You explore rooms, unlock new areas, solve puzzles and uncover hidden secrets. This is not a generic VR action game: the central play loop is investigation and puzzle solving.
The game’s defining presentation is volumetric live-action capture. Vertigo says ghostly performances appear in 3D, while the mansion uses VR optical illusions, an adaptive soundtrack and positional audio. The publisher also says its puzzles were redesigned for VR, are handcrafted, tied to the story and built around recognizable elements from the original. Steam classifies the release as single-player and VR-only; there is no official multiplayer mode listed.
Install and start on each platform
Meta Quest (native standalone)
- Open the official Meta Quest listing for The 7th Guest VR and confirm the selected headset is one of Meta’s listed platforms: Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 or Quest 3S.
- Install the app from the Quest store. Meta lists 10.5 GB of required space and says an internet connection is not required for play, although the store/account download step still needs your normal Quest setup.
- Choose sitting or standing play. Meta lists the game as single-user and controller-based, with a “Comfortable” comfort level.
Do not treat the Quest listing as evidence that every older or newer Meta headset is supported: the models above are the ones the official listing names. VRHow has not independently tested performance or compatibility.
Windows PC VR (Steam)
- Buy or install the Steam edition, install SteamVR or use an OpenXR runtime, and connect your VR headset by the headset maker’s supported PC-VR path.
- Before downloading, compare your PC with Steam’s published minimum: 64-bit Windows 10, i7-9700K or Ryzen 7 3700 equivalent, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT equivalent, DirectX 12, 30 GB available storage and an SSD.
- Start SteamVR, put on the headset and launch The 7th Guest VR from Steam. Steam specifically says VR support excludes Windows Mixed Reality (WMR).
These are minimum requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate. The Steam page does not publish a recommended CPU/GPU set beyond the heading, so this guide does not invent one.
PlayStation VR2
- Use the PS5 PlayStation Store listing for The 7th Guest VR. The listing identifies the product as a PS5 version and says PlayStation VR2 is required.
- Connect the PS VR2 headset and the required PS VR2 Sense controllers, then select sitting, standing or roomscale play. For roomscale, PlayStation states that a minimum 2 m × 2 m play area is required.
- Launch the game from the PS5 library. The listing says offline play is enabled and the game is for one player.
Edition and buying pitfalls
Do not confuse this VR edition with The 7th Guest Remake, the later flat-screen release. Vertigo’s cross-access announcement says owners of the VR version in a Steam or PlayStation library receive the remake at launch, and buying the remake on Steam or PS5 provides access to the VR version on Steam VR or PlayStation VR2. That announcement names those cross-access paths; it does not establish a Quest cross-buy route. Check the store account and platform before purchasing.
For a Quest owner who wants no PC, choose the Meta edition. For a PC owner, the Steam page is the edition with the published computer requirements. For a PS5 owner, choose the PlayStation edition only if you have PS VR2 and its Sense controllers. The official listings do not provide a universal headset-compatibility promise beyond these platform-specific details.
