Smash Drums

Quick take: Smash Drums is a rock-focused VR rhythm game built around striking virtual drums as cues arrive. Its official pages describe campaign and Classic modes, forward and 360-degree play, mixed reality on Quest, and multiplayer that the developer specifically limits to Meta Quest. This is a research guide based on official store and developer information, not a hands-on review. Last checked October 11, 2026.

The drumming loop

PotamWorks describes two different drum interactions: tap the crystal drums and hit the burning drums with greater force. The developer’s press kit says the game has four difficulty settings, modifiers, and both forward-facing and 360-degree modes. The current Meta Quest listing describes rhythm play across multiple environments, with drum cues set to rock songs. That combination is more specific than a general “music game” label: the official feature list centers on a virtual drum kit, impact cues, and destructive stage presentation.

For players who want a progression path, the Quest listing describes the “God of Drums” campaign, with unlockable tracks, skins and achievements. For a different style of rhythm play, the developer’s press kit lists Classic Mode, which uses a color-coded drum kit and notes on a music launcher. The press kit also names nine single-player environments, including a prison, a rock show and the Moon. These named modes and settings are the best features to check on the store page if you are deciding whether you want a campaign, an arcade-like classic mode, or a more panoramic 360-degree setup.

Music, multiplayer, and mixed reality

The developer’s press kit lists 58+ rock songs and Meta’s store page describes new “Indies” community artists and songs. The Quest listing separately shows paid music packs as add-ons. Check the platform store’s current add-on section before buying if a particular music pack matters: listing the base game does not mean every additional song is included in the same purchase.

PotamWorks describes an arena for two to eight drummers, with cooperative and versus modes, but explicitly labels that multiplayer feature “Meta Quest only.” That restriction matters when choosing hardware: the developer’s feature note should not be generalized to every headset edition. The Quest listing also advertises a mixed-reality mode; its note specifically describes black-and-white passthrough on Quest 2. It does not, in that note, establish identical mixed-reality presentation on every supported Quest model.

Which details to check before buying

Start by matching the store to your headset: Meta for the native Quest app, PlayStation for the console VR2 edition, or the relevant Pico store for a Pico headset. Then check the modes you care about. The Quest listing includes single-user and multiplayer modes, and the developer says its two-to-eight-player co-op/versus arena is Quest-only. If music variety matters, compare the base-game songs and add-on packs on the exact store page. If you expect mixed reality, look specifically at the feature description for your headset rather than assuming it matches the Quest 2 passthrough note.
