Resident Evil 4 VR (Meta Quest edition)

Quick take: this page covers the Quest-specific VR adaptation of Resident Evil 4, not the separate VR Mode add-on for the 2023 PS5 remake. Meta currently lists the Quest app for Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. This is a research guide based on official sources, not a hands-on review. Last checked October 11, 2026.

What this edition is

The Meta Quest Store page describes Resident Evil 4 as remastered for VR and places the player in a first-person view as Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter. Its overview frames the story around a remote village, hostile inhabitants, and a cult tied to the abduction. These are details of the Quest release’s official description; this page does not treat it as the later console remake.

Meta’s launch article explains the design choices that make this version specifically VR-oriented: weapons and items are handled as physical objects, weapons can be retrieved from the player’s body rather than selected only through a menu, and the game supports teleportation or room-scale movement alongside analog-stick movement. Meta also says the experience can be played seated or standing. These are official descriptions of the Quest adaptation, not a claim about the separate PS5 mode.

Quest content and play setup

The current Quest store listing identifies the game as single-user and lists sitting and standing play modes. It also describes The Mercenaries as a free update, with a wave-based extra mode and 20 challenges. If you are comparing editions or reinstalling the game, check the Quest listing itself for the supported headset models and current app details; the listing currently names Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro.

How it differs from Resident Evil 4 VR Mode on PS5

The name can cause confusion because PlayStation also offers Resident Evil 4 VR Mode. PlayStation identifies that item as a PS5 add-on for the 2023 Resident Evil 4 and says the full PS5 game is required. The add-on requires PlayStation VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers; it is not a standalone headset game. That is a different product and hardware path from the Quest-specific app described above.

The PlayStation listing also narrows the add-on’s content: VR Mode covers the main story, while The Mercenaries and Separate Ways are not supported in that mode. It separately notes that filters are unavailable in VR Mode. If you are buying specifically to play in VR, check whether you need the Quest game itself or the PS5 base game plus its VR Mode add-on; a listing that says “Resident Evil 4 VR” may refer to either one. The official listings cited here do not establish cross-buy or shared save entitlement between them.

Which one should you look for?

Choose the Meta Quest listing if you want the standalone Quest adaptation and its first-person item interactions. Choose the PlayStation add-on only if you already plan to use the 2023 PS5 game with PS VR2 and Sense controllers. These are separate store products with different platform dependencies; the Quest page does not require the PS5 game, and the PS5 VR Mode listing explicitly does. Before checkout, verify the exact store title, headset model and base-game requirement shown for your platform.
