Red Matter

At a glance: Red Matter is a story-driven VR puzzle adventure set during a dystopian Cold War. The official description places Agent Epsilon at an abandoned Volgravian research base on Rhea, one of Saturn’s moons.[1] Last checked October 11, 2026.

What kind of VR game is it?

Red Matter is built as a focused, single-player science-fiction mystery rather than a multiplayer game. Its puzzles are part of the facility: the official site describes handling objects naturally and using in-world tools, while the Steam description specifically calls out scanning evidence, translating Volgravian messages and operating unfamiliar machinery.[1] [2]

The premise starts as a covert investigation. Agent Epsilon, an Atlantic Union astronaut, is sent to Rhea to investigate an abandoned Volgravian base; searching the site and following its evidence leads to a more surreal mystery.[1] [2] That makes observation and environmental interaction central to the experience: the store listing describes repairing circuits, decoding information and manipulating objects with motion controllers, alongside smooth locomotion, teleport and dash movement options.[2]

Which VR edition do you mean?

EditionWhat the official listing identifiesDelivery mode
Meta QuestMeta lists supported platforms as Meta Quest, Quest Pro, Quest 2, Quest 3S and Quest 3.Native standalone headset software. The Meta listing identifies the Quest family as the supported platform; it does not describe this store edition as requiring a PC.
SteamSteam labels the game “VR Only” and lists VR support for SteamVR or Oculus PC.PCVR. This is the computer edition: the headset experience is delivered through the PC VR runtimes identified by Steam, not presented as a native Quest store app.
PlayStationThe PlayStation Store lists Red Matter for PS4 and PS5. For the PS5 version, it explicitly says PlayStation VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers are required.Console VR. The PS5 listing is tied to PS VR2; do not treat it as the standalone Quest or PCVR edition.

These are separate store/platform listings. The sources do not establish that every headset can run every edition, so choose the edition for your own platform rather than assuming cross-headset support.

Practical platform notes

For a headset-only setup, the Meta store is the source that explicitly names Quest hardware and supported player modes (sitting, standing and roomscale).[3] For a gaming PC setup, Steam’s listing provides PC requirements and names SteamVR or Oculus PC as the VR support path.[2] For a console setup, use the PlayStation edition and note the PS5 requirement for PS VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controllers.[4]
