Project CARS 3 VR: PCVR setup and platform guide

Short answer: Project CARS 3 is a PC VR game, not a native Quest or console-VR release. Steam lists VR Support through SteamVR or Oculus PC. You need a Windows gaming PC, a compatible headset connection and a keyboard or gamepad. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Which edition supports VR?

The official Steam listing identifies SteamVR or Oculus PC as the supported VR paths. Its minimum notes also say that a keyboard or gamepad is required. That makes this a PCVR edition: the game runs on the computer and sends the view to the headset through the PC VR runtime. It is not a standalone Meta Quest app, and the official Bandai Namco platform listing names PC, PS4 and Xbox One—not Meta Quest or PlayStation VR—as Project CARS 3 platforms.

In practical terms, a Quest owner can use the PC edition only by connecting the headset to the Windows PC through a supported PC-streaming method. Meta's Horizon Link requirements describe the cable route: a high-quality USB data-and-power cable, ideally at least 3 m (10 ft), plus the Meta Horizon Link PC app. That connection does not turn Project CARS 3 into a native Quest installation.

Official PCVR requirements

Use the game's own Steam requirements rather than assuming that a modern headset alone makes it suitable. Project CARS 3 lists these minimum PC specifications:

For VR or triple-screen play, Steam adds a separate note of GTX 980 or equivalent at minimum. Its recommended tier is Windows 10, an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2070 or AMD RX 5700, and 50 GB storage; the VR/triple-screen note raises that graphics guidance to an RTX 2080 or equivalent. These are the publisher/developer's Steam figures, not a VRHow performance guarantee. The page does not provide a headset-by-headset performance promise.

How to play it in a headset

  1. Install the PC edition through Steam if you already own it. The Steam listing currently says that product sales ended on August 24, 2025, but digitally purchased copies remain in the owner's library and can be redownloaded.
  2. Install and update the PC VR software for your headset. For a Quest, Meta says to install the Meta Horizon Link PC app on Windows, keep it updated and run the latest headset operating system.
  3. Connect the headset by a supported PC link method, then start the appropriate runtime. SteamVR is the Steam route; Oculus PC is the other runtime explicitly named by the game's listing.
  4. Launch Project CARS 3 from Steam and keep a keyboard or gamepad available. The official requirement does not promise that every headset's motion controllers replace a conventional racing input.

For a Quest, Meta Link can be wired. Wireless Quest PC streaming may also be available through the headset's supported software, but it remains PC streaming: the Windows game and its graphics workload stay on the computer. Check Meta's current compatibility tables before buying a cable or relying on a particular GPU; those tables can change independently of the game.

What is in the VR edition?

Steam describes a substantial racing game rather than a VR-only demo: more than 200 race and road cars, more than 120 global tracks, a career progression from weekend warrior to racing legend, car upgrades, liveries, driver personalization, scalable assists, dynamic 24-hour/all-seasons/all-weather racing, enhanced AI, multiplayer and community modes, and daily challenges. These are the game features documented on the store page; it does not claim that every menu or mode has identical VR controls.

Bandai Namco's official PC patch notes are useful for VR-specific context. Update #2 records numerous VR tweaks and fixes, disables depth of field in the main menu when in VR and triple-screen modes, fixes Oculus Rift standby audio behavior, and prevents accessing Photo Mode in the garage in VR with a gamepad. This confirms that VR was an actively maintained PC mode, while also showing why a gamepad can matter in menus and setup.

Buying and platform pitfalls

Do not buy the PS4 or Xbox One edition expecting console VR: Bandai Namco lists those as console platforms but its official platform information does not list PSVR or Xbox VR. Do not look for a Quest store version either. The verified VR choice is the PC edition through Steam, using SteamVR or Oculus PC.

There is also an important 2026 ownership caveat. Steam's official notice says sales ended August 24, 2025; eligible digital owners retain redownload access, and DLC bought before the cutoff remains usable. The same notice says online modes remained active until February 24, 2026. That date has passed, so this page does not present Project CARS 3 as a current online-service purchase. Confirm your own library and installed content before planning around multiplayer or DLC.

Evidence boundary: VRHow has not independently tested Project CARS 3 performance or headset compatibility. Official sources confirm PCVR via SteamVR/Oculus PC, but do not give a complete current headset matrix, native Quest edition, or guaranteed frame-rate target.
