What is Population: One?
BigBox VR describes Population: One as a squad-based VR battle royale. Its Vertical Combat System lets players climb what they can see, fly across the map, and build cover during a fight. Read the developer’s description.
The official Meta listing describes it as a multiplayer first-person shooter and lists Battle Royale, Phoenix Royale, player-created Sandbox games, Team Deathmatch, War, Legions, Metropolis Royale, Single Player, Co-Op Bot Battle, Duos, Hangouts, and Training Park/Social Hub among its modes and activities. Those are the modes named by the listing, not a guarantee of a particular event or queue at any given time. See the official Meta Quest listing.
Where it runs
- Native standalone Meta Quest: Meta’s official store entry identifies the supported platforms as Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro. This is the native Quest store listing; it does not establish a PC requirement for that installation. Meta Quest Store listing.
- PCVR through Steam: Steam has an official Population: One listing that identifies the game as VR-only and names SteamVR or Oculus PC in its VR support information. However, the same current listing explicitly says the game is no longer available on the Steam store, so this page does not present Steam as a currently obtainable PCVR edition. Steam listing.
- Other platforms: The official sources checked for this page did not verify a native Pico or console-VR store version, so those platforms are not listed as supported here. Official game site.
A PCVR listing and a native Quest listing are different forms of access. A PCVR copy, when available, is played through a computer and compatible VR setup; it should not be described as native standalone Quest, Pico, or console play. The current Steam listing’s availability notice is why PCVR availability is left unresolved rather than inferred from older promotional text. Official Steam listing.
Understanding the climb–fly–build loop
BigBox VR's description names three linked actions: climb surfaces, launch into flight, and build cover. Together, those features make vertical movement and player-created cover part of the advertised combat design, rather than simply a way to cross a flat map. The official Meta page lists Battle Royale and other named playlists, including Phoenix Royale, Sandbox, Team Deathmatch, War, Legions, Metropolis Royale, Solo, Co-Op Bot Battle, Duos, Hangouts, and Training Park/Social Hub. Those names help users distinguish combat queues from the social, practice, or creator-oriented spaces; they are not a promise that a specific event or queue is active at every time. For access, the Meta Quest listing is the verified native route for its listed Quest models. Steam has an official PCVR listing, but it currently says the game is no longer available on the Steam store; an old store page is not proof that a new buyer can still obtain that edition. The page does not infer whether an existing Steam owner can still launch it or whether a specific PC streaming route works. Check the live store page for current access, and treat Quest and Steam as separate editions rather than assuming cross-buy or shared entitlements.
