Moss VR: which edition should you buy?

Short answer: the original Moss is a single-player VR action-adventure puzzle game. It is a native Meta Quest app, a SteamVR PC game, and a PlayStation VR title with separate PS4 and PS5 listings. Pick the store that matches the headset you already own; a Steam purchase is PC VR, not a native Quest install. Last checked October 11, 2026.

What kind of VR game is Moss?

Polyarc describes Moss as an action-adventure puzzle game built for VR. You guide Quill, a small mouse, through a storybook world while combining conventional action-adventure controls with direct interaction in the environment: the official description calls out moving objects, battling enemies, exploring, and solving puzzles. It is single-player rather than a multiplayer game. Polyarc's official game page also describes caves, forests, ruins, artifacts, and a bond between the player and Quill.

The Quest listing gives the clearest comfort-specific detail. It calls the game “comfortable” and says it uses a fixed perspective with zero motion; it also lists hidden collectible scrolls and a photo mode. That is useful context for owners who do not want a free-moving first-person game, but it is not a promise that every player will avoid discomfort. VRHow has not independently tested performance, tracking, or comfort.

Confirmed editions and where they run

EditionWhat the official listing confirmsWhat you need
Meta QuestNative Quest app; supported platforms listed as Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3SA compatible Quest headset and about 2.63 GB of space
SteamVR-only, single-player SteamVR release with tracked-controller supportA Windows PC meeting Steam's published requirements, plus SteamVR and a compatible PC-VR connection
PlayStationOfficial store lists a PS4 Moss VR edition and a PS5 Moss VR editionFor the PS5 edition: PS VR2, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and a PS5

These are separate store editions. The Meta listing is the standalone route: it identifies the app as a Meta Quest product and says an internet connection is not required. The Steam listing is the PC route: it specifies SteamVR and Windows system requirements. If you own a Quest but buy Steam Moss, you would be streaming PC VR to the headset through a supported PC-VR method; that does not turn the Steam license into the native Quest app. Conversely, buying the Quest listing does not provide the Steam PC edition.

PlayStation needs extra care because the store's Moss concept page exposes both PS4 and PS5 editions. The PS5 product information says the PS5 version requires PlayStation VR2 and requires the PS VR2 Sense controllers; it supports sitting and standing play and is offline, single-player. Do not assume the PS5 listing is playable on original PS VR, or that the PS4 listing automatically upgrades to every newer headset mode, without checking the edition shown in your region's store.

Steam PC requirements

For the Steam edition, the official listing publishes these numbers. Minimum is 64-bit Windows 7/8.1/10, an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 equivalent, 8 GB RAM, an Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD RX 480 8GB equivalent, DirectX 11, and 12 GB available storage. Recommended is Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or better, 8 GB RAM, an Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB or AMD RX Vega 56 8GB or better, and 12 GB storage. Steam labels VR support as SteamVR. Those are the publisher/store's listed requirements, not a VRHow benchmark or guarantee; note that Steam also says its client support moved to Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. Install and choose without mixing editions

  1. Quest: open the official Meta Quest Moss listing, confirm the headset shown in the platform selector, and install it directly to the headset. Leave roughly 2.63 GB available.
  2. PC VR: buy Moss VR on Steam, install Steam and SteamVR on the PC, then connect your headset using the PC-VR method supported by that headset. Check the published PC requirements before buying; Quest streaming still requires the qualifying PC.
  3. PlayStation: select the PS4 or PS5 edition deliberately. For PS5, use the official listing's required PS VR2 and Sense controllers. The store identifies both sitting and standing play.

The official pages do not provide one universal cross-buy entitlement across Meta, Steam, and PlayStation. They also do not establish a complete accessibility feature list beyond the Quest listing's fixed perspective, zero-motion description and sitting/standing modes. Treat those as edition-specific facts, not guarantees for every platform.
