MLB Home Run Derby VR

Short answer: the current standalone edition is on Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. MLB also publishes a separate Rift PCVR link and a SteamVR edition, so a PC is required for those versions—not for the Quest app. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Which VR edition should you choose?

Quest standalone: Meta's listing names Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro as supported platforms. It lists standing, roomscale and sitting play, tracked controllers, an internet connection requirement, and 2.94 GB of space. This is the simplest route if you want to install directly on a headset: open the official Meta Quest listing, buy or install it there, and launch it from the headset library. No PC or Quest streaming connection is identified as necessary for this edition.

Rift PCVR: MLB's official game page links to a distinct Rift PCVR product. Treat that as a PC VR edition: it is not the native Quest app, and the official page does not provide a current headset-by-headset compatibility list or PC specification on that page.

SteamVR: the official Steam listing labels the game “VR Only” and requires SteamVR. It publishes Windows 10 minimum hardware of an Intel i7-6700-equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1070-equivalent graphics, DirectX 11, broadband internet and 1 GB storage. Recommended specifications are an i7-11800-equivalent-or-greater CPU, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060-equivalent-or-greater graphics, DirectX 12, broadband internet and 1 GB storage. These are the Steam edition's requirements; do not use them to judge the standalone Quest app.

What you can do in the game

This is a batting-focused, motion-controlled Home Run Derby rather than a full baseball season. MLB describes motion-based controls, realistic batting mechanics, tag multipliers and competition for leaderboard scores. The official game page says all 30 MLB ballparks are represented, and its progression system can reach up to 100 levels. Player incentives include challenges such as hitting a home run in every ballpark or launching a 500-foot home run.

The feature set is broader than a solo batting cage. MLB's release announcement documents multiplayer for up to four players and a tournament mode for up to eight; MLB's current game page describes an elimination-style tournament for eight friends, head-to-head play, casual catch and a customizable clubhouse. The same announcement lists unlockable bat skins, batting gloves and custom ball trails, while the Meta listing describes earned bats, gloves and trophies. Leaderboards can be sorted by score, longest home run and exit velocity. The exact menus and live leaderboard seasons can change with updates, so use the in-game prompts for the current flow.

Setup and practical checks

  1. Pick the storefront first. For no-PC play, use the Meta Quest listing and one of its four named Quest headsets. For computer VR, use the Rift PCVR route linked by MLB or the Steam listing.
  2. Make room to swing. Meta lists sitting, standing and roomscale modes, but a real bat-like motion still needs a clear, safe area. VRHow has not independently tested tracking, comfort or performance.
  3. Plan for connectivity. The Quest listing says an internet connection is required. Steam separately requires broadband internet and SteamVR. These statements do not establish offline support or cross-buy, so check the selected store's current purchase terms before buying.
  4. Check the PC before Steam purchase. Compare your Windows 10 machine with the official Steam minimum and recommended specifications above; a Quest connected to a PC would still be running the PC edition, not turning the Steam copy into a native Quest install.

Platform pitfalls and unknowns

MLB's 2024 release announcement says the then-new version launched on Quest and was also available on Rift and Steam VR. The developer, Little Guy Games, separately says the title was deployed at MLB events and was available in retail for PlayStation VR and HTC Vive. Those statements document platform history, but they do not prove that a current digital PSVR or HTC Vive purchase is still available in 2026. The official current links checked here are Meta Quest, Rift PCVR and SteamVR.

Neither the Meta listing nor MLB's game page publishes a complete controller remapping or accessibility feature list. They do document supported play positions, tracked controllers, English language support on Meta, and a “Comfortable” comfort rating. Do not assume cross-platform multiplayer, cross-buy, a specific Quest-to-PC streaming method, or support for unlisted headsets without confirmation from the relevant store.

Scope note: this is an evidence-led platform and setup guide, not a hands-on review. VRHow has not independently tested performance, compatibility, tracking or current multiplayer availability.
