Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (H3VR)

Short answer: H3VR is a PC VR game distributed on Steam. Steam labels it VR Only and says its VR support is SteamVR only; its listing names Quest among supported SteamVR headsets, which means a Quest owner should plan on PC streaming rather than a native standalone Quest install. Which edition and platform?

The official Steam store page lists RUST LTD. as both developer and publisher, sells one Windows PC product, and marks it “VR Only.” Its VR-support line names SteamVR, Oculus Rift, Rift S, Quest, Quest 2, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2, Vive Cosmos and Windows Mixed Reality generations 1 and 2. The developer’s H3VR website likewise sends buyers to Steam and describes play with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality through Steam.

This is an important edition distinction: the checked official material does not show a separate native Meta Quest app or a PlayStation VR edition. Quest is named in Steam’s PC VR support list, not as a standalone store listing. For Quest, buy/install the Steam copy on a Windows PC and use a compatible PC-to-headset streaming route such as the Link route you already use; this is PCVR, not native Quest execution. The official sources checked here do not promise support for any particular wireless method, cable, router or newer headset beyond the names in the Steam listing.

What is actually in H3VR?

This is more than a generic shooting range. Steam describes a sandbox built around firearms, attachments, targets, enemies and several game modes. The store currently documents more than 600 firearms and 250 attachments, loadout saving and sharing, firing and demolition ranges, the M.E.A.T.S. target trainer with global leaderboards, and combat against ranged and melee AI. Treat those counts as the store’s current description, not a performance guarantee.

For structured play, Take & Hold is a sci-fi action roguelite: capture and defend control points, defeat escalating Encryption Targets, earn tokens and spend them in item shops. Return of the Rotwieners is a quest-oriented undead-meat adventure with crafting, powerups and explosives. Other named experiences include the Meat Fortress combat arena, Wurstwurld’s exploration and puzzle challenges, and Meat Grinder’s flashlight maze and timed defence. The Steam page also calls out holiday event modes and the Meatmas firearm advent calendar. These modes make the game a useful choice if you want both a sandbox and repeatable scenarios rather than a linear campaign.

Official PC requirements

Steam also specifies DirectX 11, an SSD or cache-assisted HDD, and Windows virtual memory enabled (16 GB recommended). The store’s minimum says standing room; its recommended notes strongly recommend a 2 m by 1.5 m room-scale area. The listing’s storage figures conflict (25 GB minimum versus 20 GB recommended), so leave at least the larger published figure available rather than treating the lower number as a typo we can resolve.

Install and learn the controls

  1. Confirm the PC meets the Steam requirements and has SteamVR working with your headset.
  2. Buy and install H3VR from its official Steam page; launch it through SteamVR.
  3. Start with the in-game tutorial. The developer website explicitly says the game has a tutorial, and its feature list documents 20+ game scenes.
  4. Use RUST LTD.’s pinned official quickstart and firearm tutorial thread. It links lessons for the item spawner, ammunition manipulation, automatic handguns, revolvers, lever actions, shotguns, closed-bolt firearms and open-bolt firearms.

H3VR’s appeal depends on hands-on manipulation—loading, attaching and operating weapons—so the developer’s firearm-specific lessons are more useful than assuming a generic VR shooter control scheme. The official listing confirms tracked-controller support, but the checked sources do not provide a complete current button map or a formal accessibility feature list. Do not choose it expecting a documented gamepad or flatscreen mode.

Buying guidance and limits

Choose the Steam edition if you have a Windows PC capable of the published requirements and a SteamVR-compatible headset. Quest owners should budget for the PC and streaming connection; buying a Quest headset alone is not the same as buying a native Quest copy. No official console-VR edition was identified in the sources checked. Prices and availability can change, so use the linked store page for the current offer.

VRHow has not independently tested H3VR performance, headset compatibility or streaming quality. The statements above are limited to the official Steam listing, the developer website and the developer’s pinned Steam guide. Newer headset models, current menu names and third-party streaming configurations remain unverified here.
