Horizon Call of the Mountain
VR edition and delivery mode
PS5 console VR: the identified edition is the PS5 version, and PlayStation VR2 is required to play it; PS VR2 Sense controllers are also required.[1] The official sources reviewed identify PS5/PlayStation VR2, not a standalone-headset edition or a PCVR edition, so this page does not treat it as native Quest software or PC streaming.
The PlayStation listing identifies VR play styles as sitting, standing and roomscale. Roomscale play requires a minimum 2 m × 2 m play area according to the same listing.[1]
Premise and official features
Sony describes the game as a new adventure for PlayStation VR2. You play as Ryas, a disgraced former soldier, ascend the Carja Sundom and investigate a new mystery involving the machines in an effort to redeem yourself and save your people.[2]
Officially described activities include climbing mountains, hunting machines, shooting a bow and crafting items from raw materials. The game also uses two PS VR2 Sense controllers to interact with the world, including 360-degree viewing.[1]
Developer and release information
Guerrilla says it collaborated with Firesprite on the adventure and describes it as designed from the ground up for PlayStation VR2.[2] The PlayStation game page lists Sony Interactive Entertainment as publisher and the release date as February 22, 2023.[1]
Climbing, combat and exploration in context
PlayStation describes several different physical tasks rather than one repeated climbing mechanic. Ryas ascends mountain routes, looks around branching paths for secrets, hunts machines with a bow, and crafts items from materials gathered in the world. The combination makes route-finding part of the adventure: the official page specifically says there are multiple paths and that looking around helps uncover mountain secrets. It also describes a riverboat sequence designed as a ride with surprises, so the journey is not limited to standing at a cliff face. [1][2]
The PS VR2 controller features have clear in-game examples. Finger-touch detection helps represent hand position when interacting with objects; the grip buttons let the player grab items; adaptive triggers provide changing resistance when drawing the bow; and haptic feedback is used for firing, crafting, textures and terrain. Optional headset vibration and controller vibration add further tactile cues. These are documented features of this PS5/PS VR2 edition, not evidence of support on Quest or PCVR. [1]
PlayStation lists sitting, standing and roomscale play styles and requires both the PS5 version and PS VR2 hardware. That matters when comparing it with other Horizon games: Call of the Mountain is a dedicated console-VR adventure starring Ryas, with Aloy among the familiar characters, not a VR mode for Horizon Forbidden West. Sony describes it as a one-player release and lists the PS VR2 Sense controllers as required. [1]
PlayStation also documents the sensory side of this console edition: its PS VR2 feature list names 4K HDR visuals at a combined 2,000 × 2,040 resolution per eye, Tempest 3D AudioTech, optional headset feedback and controller haptics. The listed effects have specific play examples—feeling bowstring tension in the adaptive triggers and texture or crafting feedback in the Sense controllers. These are PlayStation's descriptions of the PS VR2 feature set, not a frame-rate or PC-performance claim. [1]
