Golf+ VR: which edition should you use?

Short answer: Golf+ has a native Meta Quest edition, a separate Meta Link PCVR/Rift edition, and a Steam PCVR listing that is still marked “Coming soon.” Quest owners can install the native app without a gaming PC; Quest-to-PC streaming is a way to run the PC edition, not a native Quest version. What is actually available?

The clearest standalone route is the official Meta Quest listing for Golf+. Meta categorizes it as Sports, Hangout and Simulation. Golf+’s own site says the full-swing game works on “all Quest headsets,” while its newer Immersive Putting feature is specifically labeled Quest 3/3S. That distinction matters: the site does not say that every Quest headset supports every newer feature, so check the store listing and in-game availability for your exact headset before buying accessories or a subscription.

There is also an official Meta Link PC VR/Rift listing. It identifies Rift and Rift S as supported platforms, tracked controllers, standing and room-scale play, and an internet connection for downloadable content. This is a Windows PCVR edition. A Quest connected with Meta Link or Air Link is streaming that PCVR software; it is not the same thing as installing Golf+ natively on the headset.

Finally, Steam lists Golf+ as VR Only with tracked-controller support, OpenXR on SteamVR with Meta headsets and Valve Index HMD, and Windows 10/8 GB RAM minimums. However, Steam currently says “Coming soon” and “This game is not yet available on Steam.” Treat it as an upcoming PCVR option, not a purchasable release. The Steam page also lists cross-platform multiplayer, but it does not promise that every store has identical entitlements or course access.

What can you do in Golf+?

This is a full-swing golf simulator rather than a generic mini-game. Golf+ describes controller play as the simplest entry: pick up a Meta Quest controller, make a natural swing and turn the movement into a shot. Its official site also documents optional club attachments for more length, weight and feel. The developer FAQ explains that attachments are selected under Settings > Controls; named options such as DeadeyeVR and RMDesigns are available, with a custom option for an unlisted attachment.

The official game and store descriptions document a useful set of activities: a Practice Facility or Clubhouse, mini-games, target practice, free practice with clubs, advanced shot statistics, strokes gained, a handicap system and a swing analyzer. Multiplayer includes private games and public rounds. Competitive features include daily or weekly tournaments, leaderboards, the Golf+ Tour and Battle mode; the Meta PCVR listing additionally names Match Play, Skins, Weekly Challenges and Topgolf. The exact course catalogue and which items are included can change. Golf+’s current site says Golf+ Pass unlocks 50+ courses and Immersive Putting, while the Meta PCVR listing describes three free courses and paid destinations, so confirm the current offer in the store before assuming a course is included.

Setup and practical choices

  1. For the simplest Quest experience: open the official Meta Quest listing, install Golf+ from the headset or Meta app, and start with the controllers. This is the native standalone path and does not require a PC.
  2. For PCVR: use the Meta Link/Rift edition where available, or wishlist Steam’s upcoming edition. Steam publishes Windows 10 and 8 GB RAM minimums, but no CPU/GPU requirement is exposed in the page material checked here; do not invent one or assume a particular performance level.
  3. For a club attachment: set the attachment in Settings > Controls. If the club appears too short, the developer FAQ says to reset the Quest Guardian and set the floor position correctly.
  4. For multiplayer voice: Golf+’s FAQ says microphone permission must be enabled for the app and the headset microphone must not be muted. Public rounds and private games are online features, so an internet connection is part of the practical setup.
  5. For putting: Golf+’s site says Immersive Putting uses a real putter and real ball, needs only four feet of space, and is labeled Quest 3/3S. Do not assume this feature works on an older Quest or that a normal controller provides the same input.

Buying and compatibility caveats

Choose native Quest if you want to avoid a gaming PC and cable or wireless streaming. Choose PCVR if you specifically want the documented Rift/SteamVR route and have a suitable Windows setup. Steam’s version is not yet available on the checked page, and the official sources checked do not verify a PlayStation VR2 or standalone Pico edition. They also do not provide a complete headset-by-headset feature matrix, current regional pricing, or a guaranteed course-by-course entitlement comparison. Prices, subscriptions, course bundles and release status can change; verify the linked store page immediately before purchase.

VRHow has not independently tested Golf+ performance, tracking, comfort, cross-play, course loading or Immersive Putting compatibility. The guidance above is limited to the editions and features documented by Golf+ and the platform stores.
