Cosmodread
What you actually do
Cosmodread gives every run a clear but stressful objective: explore a failing ship, survive what is inside it, and find a route back to Earth. The ship is not a memorized level. White Door Games says each run uses a procedurally generated layout, changing the positions of rooms, corridors, items and hazards, with emergent situations that make the next door uncertain. That makes cautious scouting more valuable than learning one perfect route. [Official game overview]
The survival loop is tactile. Search drawers, lockers and other spaces with your hands, collect basic resources, then decide what to craft before you commit to the next section. The developer describes crafting weapons and equipment for enemies and hazards, so every useful component is also a question of timing: spend it now for safety, or keep it for a harder room later. This is resource search as decision-making, not just a checklist. [Steam: Explore and Survive]
Combat is deliberately economical. The official description calls out a crossbow, traps, cover and scarce ammunition; it also suggests throwing an object to distract a creature. In practice, treat a loud or dangerous encounter as a choice rather than an automatic fight: use cover, create space, or spend a trap when that protects a run. That scarcity is a useful expectation to set before buying—this is not a power-fantasy shooter with an unlimited magazine. [Official fight details]
Choose the edition that matches your hardware
- Meta Quest (native headset play): The Meta listing identifies supported platforms as Meta Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, Quest 2 and Meta Quest. This is the standalone Quest store listing: install it on a supported headset rather than assuming the Steam purchase is included. Meta also lists sitting, standing and roomscale play modes, which are useful checks before you buy. [Meta Quest Store]
- Steam (PCVR): Steam marks Cosmodread “VR Only” and lists SteamVR or Oculus PC support. Choose this route only if you have a compatible gaming computer plus a VR headset and the connection method to run PCVR. A Quest headset may act as the display for PCVR, but that streamed or tethered session is computer-run, not the native Quest installation. Steam's minimum requirements are listed on the store page; check them against your actual PC before checkout. [Steam listing]
- PlayStation VR2: The PlayStation Store lists Cosmodread as a PS5 version and states that PlayStation VR2 is required. That is a console-VR edition, not a PCVR license and not a native Quest app; plan on a PS5 and PS VR2 hardware, and verify the regional store page before purchase. The listing also identifies offline play and one-player support. [PlayStation Store]
Buying and setup checks
Start with the store tied to the device you will actually use, then confirm the exact platform label and current regional offer. Do not infer cross-buy or save transfer between Quest, Steam and PlayStation: the cited pages list separate editions, but do not promise entitlement sharing. For PCVR, confirm your computer meets Steam's published minimums and that your headset can reach SteamVR or Oculus PC. For Quest or PS VR2, clear a safe play area, choose sitting or standing deliberately, and remember that horror works best when you can pause safely if the tension becomes too much. The official listings describe single-player play; there is no basis here to promise multiplayer or a shared campaign.
