Automobilista 2 in VR
Which edition supports VR?
This page covers the Reiza Studios game sold as Automobilista 2 on Steam (app 1066890), not a similarly named expansion or another racing title. The official Steam listing marks the game VR Supported and identifies Reiza Studios as both developer and publisher.[1] Its published Windows minimum requirements explicitly name “SteamVR or Oculus PC” under VR Support and require a keyboard or gamepad.
The verified VR edition is therefore the Steam PC release. Steam also lists a SteamOS + Linux build, but the VR runtime note appears in the Windows requirements; the official pages checked do not establish a separate Linux VR support path. They also do not list a native Quest store build, a PlayStation VR/PSVR2 version, or an Xbox VR mode. Do not buy a console or standalone copy expecting VR unless a later official product page explicitly says so.
How Quest and other headsets reach the game
A Quest can be used as the display for PC VR, but the game still runs on the Windows PC. Valve's official Steam Link support page says Steam Link streams games from a computer running Steam and SteamVR to supported Meta Quest, HTC Vive Focus and PICO headsets.[2] Valve's setup path is: sign into Steam on the PC, put the headset and PC on the same network, install Steam Link from the headset or phone store, then follow its pairing instructions. The page specifies a 5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 minimum and recommends Wi-Fi 6 or 6E; it also publishes headset, OS and GPU requirements for Steam Link itself.
That transport guidance is not an Automobilista 2 headset compatibility guarantee. A wired Link connection or another vendor's PC-streaming method may be appropriate, but the official Automobilista 2 listing only confirms the PC runtimes named above. VRHow has not independently tested any headset, streaming method, image quality or frame rate.
Official install and launch path
- Install the Steam PC edition of Automobilista 2 and let Steam update it. The official game's store page is the verified purchase and download route.[1]
- Check the Windows CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and operating-system requirements below. These are the game's published requirements, not a VRHow performance recommendation.
- Set up SteamVR or Oculus PC for the headset path you intend to use. If using Steam Link, install and pair that app according to Valve's official steps before launching the game.[2]
- Start Automobilista 2 with the headset and selected PC runtime available, then configure your driving input. The store listing confirms keyboard and gamepad support; a dedicated wheel-and-pedal rig is a choice, not an official requirement.
The official sources checked do not publish a headset-by-headset launch menu, current graphics preset, reprojection target or VR comfort checklist. Treat those details as unknown rather than assuming that settings from another racing sim apply.
What makes this a useful VR racing sim?
Reiza's official game site describes the MADNESS engine, more than 150 cars, more than 50 tracks with over 100 layouts, laser-scanned real-world circuits, historic venues and Brazilian tracks.[3] The Steam listing adds single-player, online PvP and LAN PvP, plus championship seasons and custom seasons. It documents a broad catalogue ranging from rental karts and racing trucks to classic Grand Prix cars, modern GTs and prototypes.[1]
For longer sessions, the game's documented simulation systems are particularly relevant in VR: dynamic weather and track conditions, 24-hour cycles, changing wind and temperature, and a real-weather feature that can use meteorological data for the selected location and time. The store page also describes motorsport rules, multiclass events, oval racing and Full Course Yellow support. These are game features, not promises that every car, track or DLC pack is included in the base purchase.
The official record does not document hand-tracked controls, room-scale interaction, accessibility remapping, subtitles in VR, or motion-comfort options. This is a seated cockpit-style simulator; choose it for head-position immersion and racing systems, while keeping those unverified accessibility details in mind.

Steam also lists broadband internet and a DirectX-compatible sound card. The Steam Link route has its own separate published minimums, including Windows 10 or newer, a computer running Steam and SteamVR, and a GTX 970-or-better or RX 570-or-better GPU (with listed AMD exceptions).[1][2] Do not read the older game minimum as a guaranteed VR frame rate.
Practical buying choice
- Choose the Steam PC edition when VR is the deciding factor; it is the edition with the explicit SteamVR/Oculus PC declaration.
- Choose your transport separately. Native standalone Quest play is not documented here. Steam Link is a wireless PC-to-headset streaming app with its own network and hardware requirements.
- Budget for the content you actually want. The official site and Steam page describe a large, evolving catalogue, while Steam lists expansions and bundles separately; the base listing does not mean every DLC car or track is included.
