A Fisherman's Tale VR: platforms, setup and requirements
A Fisherman's Tale puts you in the role of Bob, a tiny fisherman puppet in a lighthouse cabin. The central hook is not combat: you pick up, throw, combine and use objects while solving puzzles that play with scale and nested lighthouse models. InnerspaceVR describes it as a narrative puzzle game with an average duration of 120 minutes. That makes the platform choice more important than chasing the most powerful hardware: this is a compact, story-led VR experience rather than an open-ended game.
Which VR edition should you choose?
| Edition or route | What the official listing confirms | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Oculus Quest | InnerspaceVR lists an Oculus Quest version separately from Rift. | A compatible Quest headset and the Quest store version; no PC is identified as required by the developer's platform list. |
| Steam | Steam lists VR Only, SteamVR support, tracked-controller support and single-player. | A Windows PC meeting the published requirements, Steam, SteamVR and a VR setup that can run SteamVR. |
| PlayStation VR | The PlayStation Store lists the original game as a PS4 version and requires a PS VR headset, PS Camera and PS Move motion controller. | PS4 (or PS5 backward compatibility where applicable), plus the PS VR hardware listed by PlayStation. |
| Oculus Rift / Viveport | The developer lists Oculus Rift and Viveport as additional platforms. | Use the platform's own current store and headset requirements; this page does not assume a particular headset or PC specification for those editions. |
Do not treat Quest PC streaming as a native Quest installation. The developer names Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift as distinct platforms, while Steam's listing is a PC VR release. The official developer page does not enumerate Quest headset generations, and the Steam page does not promise support for every headset.
Steam PC VR requirements
Steam publishes the following minimum and recommended requirements for its edition. Both profiles specify a 64-bit operating system, Intel i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 equivalent processor, 4 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD R9 290 equivalent-or-greater GPU, and 10 GB available storage. The minimum OS field lists Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10; the recommended field lists Windows 10. Steam also marks the game “VR Required” and specifies SteamVR.
These are the store's requirements, not a guarantee of smooth performance on every headset or configuration. VRHow has not independently tested A Fisherman's Tale. For a PC purchase, compare your machine against the exact Steam figures rather than assuming that a Quest copy or a console copy transfers to Steam.
How the game is played
The official descriptions point to a tactile puzzle vocabulary: hands pick up, throw, combine and use objects, and the Steam listing records tracked-controller support. Puzzles also involve a tiny lighthouse model inside the lighthouse, with the story asking you to reach the top and turn on its light before the Big Storm. It is single-player, and the Steam store lists Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud. The developer's stated average duration is 120 minutes.
Language information is clearest on Steam: the interface and full audio are listed for English, French, German, Simplified Chinese and Spanish (Latin America). The listing does not show subtitles for those languages. Do not infer comfort options, seated/standing modes or other accessibility features from the store description; the official sources checked here do not document them.
Install and buying checklist
- Identify the storefront first. Choose the standalone Oculus Quest version only if you want to install on the headset itself. Choose Steam if you intend to play through a PC VR runtime.
- For Steam, check the published PC figures. Confirm the 64-bit Windows, CPU, 4 GB RAM, GTX 970/R9 290-class GPU and 10 GB storage requirements before buying. Steam marks VR as required.
- For PlayStation, budget for the right generation of hardware. The original store entry is PS4 and explicitly calls for PS VR, PS Camera and a PS Move motion controller. A standard PS4 game listing is not proof of a native PS VR2 edition.
- Install from the matching official store. Sign in to the account that owns the chosen edition, install its VR runtime or console software, then launch with the required headset and controllers connected.
The official sources do not establish current price, Quest headset-generation compatibility, a native PS VR2 edition for this original game, or detailed comfort/accessibility options. Check the live storefront for availability in your region before purchase.
