SUPERHOT VR: which edition should you buy?
Edition and headset check
| Edition | What you need | Officially confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest | A supported Meta Quest headset | Native standalone app; single user; standing or roomscale; internet not required |
| Meta PC VR | A Windows PC and Rift/Rift S PC VR setup | PC edition; front-facing, standing play; 1.75 GB and published PC requirements |
| SteamVR | A PC running SteamVR and a compatible PC VR setup | VR-only, single-player Steam edition; 4 GB storage and published Windows requirements |
| PlayStation VR | PS4, PS VR headset, Camera and two PS Move controllers | One player; PS4 version; PS VR and Camera required |
The Quest listing is the clearest PC-free route. Meta names the supported platforms as Meta Quest, Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro and Quest 2, lists 1.95 GB of space, and says an internet connection is not required. “Not required” describes play after installation; you still need the store and a Meta account to obtain the app and updates. Meta also identifies standing and roomscale play, and lists the comfort level as Comfortable. Meta Quest Store
Do not confuse the Quest app with PC streaming. The Meta page is a native Quest listing, while Meta separately labels its other listing “Link PC VR” and names Rift and Rift S, with a PC processor, graphics card, memory and video-output specification. If you run the Steam edition through Link, Air Link or Steam Link, the PC remains necessary: streaming a PC game to a Quest does not turn it into the standalone Quest purchase. Meta PC VR listing
Steam publishes a different PC route. Its store page marks SUPERHOT VR “VR Only” and “Single-player,” requires SteamVR, and gives a minimum of Windows 10, an Intel i5-4590-equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290-equivalent GPU, and 4 GB available space. Steam also says “Standing Only.” Those are Steam’s published requirements, not a guarantee for every headset or wireless streaming setup, so check the live listing before buying. Steam store page
PlayStation is a console-specific choice. Sony’s product page identifies the game as a PS4 version and explicitly requires a PS VR headset, PS Camera and PS Move motion controller; it supports two PS Move controllers and one player. The page also says it is playable on PS5, but warns that some PS4 features may be absent and directs owners to PlayStation’s backward-compatibility information. It is not a PS VR2 edition in the listing checked here. PlayStation Store
What makes SUPERHOT VR different?
This is not the original desktop SUPERHOT with a headset mode. The developer’s FAQ says SUPERHOT VR has different levels, plot, mechanics and new weapons, and was built from scratch for VR. Its signature rule is simple: time moves only when you move. You are outnumbered, grab weapons from fallen enemies, and shoot, slice and dodge through slow-motion bullets. Steam describes it as a hybrid puzzle-shooter redesigned for VR and hand-tracking controllers. SUPERHOT Team FAQ · Steam description
The Steam listing also confirms the included SUPERHOT FOREVER update. It adds replayable challenges and hardcore endless levels, including headshot-only play, score races in bullet-time and real-time, a no-shooting challenge, and faster enemies with less reaction time. These are useful reasons to keep playing after the main sequence, but the official store pages do not promise multiplayer: Steam and Meta identify single-user play, and PlayStation identifies one player.
Official PC requirements and setup
If you choose Steam, install Steam and SteamVR on the PC, install SUPERHOT VR from the Steam library, and start it with the headset and tracked controllers ready. Steam’s minimum lists Windows 10, i5-4590-equivalent CPU, GTX 970/R9 290-equivalent graphics, 8 GB RAM and 4 GB storage; its VR support line says SteamVR and standing only. The developer FAQ publishes a different Steam-era record—Windows 7 or newer, 4 GB RAM, HDMI 1.4, USB-A 2.0 and i5-4590/FX 8350 or better—so treat the current Steam store page as the safer pre-purchase check where the two records differ. Developer requirements FAQ
For Quest, choose the Meta Quest listing rather than Meta’s PC VR listing. For PlayStation, confirm that you have the older PS VR hardware and two Move controllers. Across all editions, leave enough clear space for arm movements and follow the headset maker’s safety guidance; VRHow has not independently tested performance or compatibility.
