PlayStation Store: PS VR2 games and compatibility

Short answer: PS VR2 games are sold digitally through PlayStation Store, but they require a PS5 and PS VR2-compatible software. Original PS VR and PS VR2 libraries are separate. Check the compatibility icons and play-style information on each game’s listing before you buy. Last checked October 11, 2026.

What PlayStation Store is

PlayStation Store is Sony’s digital storefront for PlayStation games and other content. Sony says it can be explored from a console, smartphone or web browser, and purchases are held in the online library for the account. The store includes regular PS4 and PS5 software as well as PS VR2 titles; the store itself is not a guarantee that an item is a VR game.

Sony’s PS VR2 games page directs users to purchase PS VR2 games digitally from PlayStation Store. Some product pages may bundle multiple versions or describe a VR mode as part of a larger game. Read what the specific edition includes, rather than assuming every edition or platform version has the same VR support.

PS VR2 compatibility: verify these before checkout

CheckWhat Sony documents
ConsolePS VR2 is compatible with PS5 consoles and not PS4 consoles.
Game generationOriginal PS VR and PS VR2 have no game compatibility with one another: PS VR cannot play PS VR2 games, and PS VR2 cannot play original PS VR content.
Play styleSony identifies Sitting, Standing and Roomscale categories. Roomscale requires a play area of at least 2 m × 2 m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in).
ControllersPS VR2 games use PS VR2 Sense controllers or, in some cases, DualSense. PS Move and PS VR Aim controllers are not compatible with PS VR2.

Sony says to check a game’s compatibility when purchasing. On PS5, its support instructions describe a library filter at Games home → Game Library → Your Collection or Installed → Sort and Filter → VR. The filter helps sort items already in your library; still open the product page to verify its actual PS VR2 support.

Buying and downloading

  1. Start with Sony’s PS VR2 games guide or search PlayStation Store for a specific title.
  2. Open the Store listing and confirm it specifically supports PS VR2, the console version and required controllers. Check play style and whether the item is a full game, edition, add-on or VR mode.
  3. Check the price and edition in the PlayStation Store for your account. After purchase, Sony’s instructions place games in Game Library → Your Collection on PS5, where you can download them.

Store availability, currency and digital-purchase terms depend on the account’s region. The refund details below cite Sony’s US support page; use the policy for your own Store region.

Digital refunds

Sony’s US PlayStation Store support page says a full game or DLC may be eligible for a refund if the request is made within 14 days and the content has not been downloaded or streamed, unless the content is faulty. The page lists different conditions for subscriptions, pre-orders and in-game consumables. This is not a universal policy summary for every country: check the cancellation policy shown for the region where you bought the game.

Questions

Can PS VR2 games run on a PS4?

No. Sony lists PS5 as the compatible console for PS VR2 and says PS VR2 is not compatible with PS4.

Will my original PS VR games work on PS VR2?

No. Sony states there is no compatibility between the original PS VR and PS VR2 libraries. Do not buy a PS VR1 title expecting it to become a PS VR2 game.

How do I identify a roomscale game?

Check the game’s VR Play Style and setup instructions. Sony defines Roomscale as requiring at least 2 m × 2 m of free play area; not every game requires roomscale.

Where do I download a purchased PS VR2 game?

On PS5, Sony’s guide points to Games home → Game Library → Your Collection. Select the game and choose Download.
