Apple visionOS App Store: what works on Vision Pro?

Short answer: the App Store on Apple Vision Pro contains apps made for visionOS as well as compatible iPhone and iPad apps. Those are different experiences: a compatible mobile app runs natively in a window but is not automatically a purpose-built spatial app. Check the listing's compatibility and controls before buying. Three kinds of content to distinguish

Listing typeWhat it meansWhat to check
Made for Apple Vision Pro / visionOS appA visionOS app designed for the platform; it may provide spatial windows or immersive experiences.Read the app page for its actual features, supported input and whether it requires a controller or other hardware.
Compatible iPhone or iPad appAfter the developer accepts Apple's updated Developer Program License Agreement, compatible mobile apps are available on Vision Pro by default unless the developer opts out in App Store Connect. The app runs natively using its iOS/iPadOS frameworks and runtime.Compatibility does not guarantee every phone/tablet feature works: some device-specific features and APIs are unavailable on Vision Pro.
Apple Arcade gameA curated premium game collection accessed through the Arcade tab; a subscription is required.Apple says service and game availability varies by country/region and compatibility can vary by hardware and software.

How to find and install an app

  1. Open App Store on Apple Vision Pro; Apple says an internet connection and an Apple Account are required.
  2. Browse Apps & Games, search, or browse Arcade. In search, choose Apple Vision to focus on apps made for Vision Pro, or iPhone & iPad to see compatible mobile apps.
  3. Open the product page before downloading. Apple says it can show previews, ratings and reviews, languages, controller support or requirement, other-device compatibility, file size, privacy and accessibility information.
  4. Tap the price to buy or Get for a free app. If the app is already in your purchase history, the store may offer it for redownload.

Apple's interface uses the platform's App Store rather than a separate third-party marketplace. Prices, in-app purchases, subscriptions, service access and availability are app- and region-specific; check the current listing and your account region. The store's featured stories can help with discovery, but the app detail page is the safer source for an individual title's compatibility.

What “compatible” does not promise

A compatible iPhone or iPad app is adapted by the system to run in a visionOS window; that is not the same as an immersive app built with the visionOS SDK. Apple documents hardware and framework differences: examples of unavailable capabilities in compatible apps include Core Motion services, barometer/magnetometer data, most location services, HealthKit data and direct video or still-photo capture using the headset's cameras. An app can remain available while some features are absent, so verify the functions you depend on.

Availability rule checked October 11, 2026: Apple says compatible iPhone and iPad apps are generally available on Apple Vision Pro unless the developer edits availability in App Store Connect; Apple's developer guidance says this automatic availability follows acceptance of its updated Developer Program License Agreement. Apps that have been in the Kids category can't be made available on visionOS. Individual app compatibility and availability may vary.

For developers

Apple's documented routes are to make an existing iOS/iPadOS app compatible with visionOS or build a distinct visionOS version for a more spatial experience. Developers can manage whether their iPhone and iPad app is available on Apple Vision Pro in App Store Connect; Apple's developer guidance describes how to test compatibility and handle unavailable hardware capabilities. A successful mobile App Store listing alone does not establish that an app has been adapted for immersive use.

Questions

Can I run every iPhone or iPad app on Vision Pro?

No. Apple describes compatible apps as automatically available by default, subject to developer availability settings and platform requirements. Apps that depend on unsupported hardware or APIs may not work as expected, and developers can opt out of Apple Vision Pro availability.

Are iPad apps immersive VR apps?

Not necessarily. Compatible iPad and iPhone apps run natively in a visionOS window using their existing frameworks. A visionOS app can be designed specifically for spatial interfaces and immersive content.

How do I tell if a game needs a controller?

Check the app's product page. Apple says the listing can state whether a game controller is supported or required; do not assume eye-and-hand input is enough for every game.

Can I get Apple Arcade on Vision Pro?

Apple's Vision Pro guide lists an Arcade tab and says a subscription is required. Apple notes that Apple Arcade and the availability of individual games vary by country/region and by hardware and software compatibility.
