VR industry partnerships: latest verified status
A source-checked snapshot of partnerships that affect VR/XR platforms, hardware or experiences—not a complete industry register.
Dated evidence
- October 21–22, 2025 — Samsung and Google (confirmed, shipping). Samsung’s newsroom says Galaxy XR became available in the US on October 21, 2025, and Korea on October 22, at $1,799.99. Google describes it as the first device built on Android XR. Samsung, “Introducing Galaxy XR: Opening New Worlds” (October 21, 2025); Google, “Introducing Galaxy XR, the first Android XR headset” (page accessed October 11, 2026; announcement dated October 2025).
- December 12, 2024 — Google, Samsung and Qualcomm (confirmed platform collaboration; plans then). Google announced Android XR “in partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm.” The same announcement named Qualcomm partners Lynx, Sony and XREAL as having a development path, and said Google was continuing to collaborate with Magic Leap. At announcement time, Project Moohan was described as a future device; Galaxy XR’s later launch is the verified shipped outcome. Google, “Android XR: The Gemini era comes to headsets and glasses” (December 12, 2024).
- January 23, 2025 — Google and HTC (announced strategic agreement; completion not verified here). Google said some HTC VIVE engineering staff would join Google, subject to customary closing conditions. HTC’s primary announcement specified US$250 million in cash and a non-exclusive XR-IP license, and said VIVE products would continue to be supported. HTC expected closing in Q1 2025, but the opened announcement does not confirm completion; this is evidence of announced cooperation and planned transfer, not a completed HTC/VIVE sale. Google, “We’re accelerating the Android XR platform with a new agreement with HTC” (January 23, 2025); HTC VIVE, “HTC Announces XR Agreement with Google” (January 23, 2025).
- September 23, 2026 — Meta and content/sports partners (confirmed partnerships; product pending). Meta said its Meta VR Glasses would work with IMAX, Disney/ILM, ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, UFC and other media services. The announcement sets sale timing at Spring 2027 for $1,299.99, so these are announced integrations and planned experiences—not evidence of current retail availability. Meta, “Introducing Meta VR Glasses: A Cinema, Courtside Seat, and Workspace in Just 100 Grams” (September 23, 2026).
What this means
Partnerships are serving different jobs: Samsung supplies a shipped Android XR device; Qualcomm helps make a broader hardware ecosystem possible; HTC contributes specialized engineering and licensed IP; and Meta is assembling content distribution around a future glasses form factor. Treat partner lists as evidence of announced cooperation, not guarantees that every named device, app or event will ship on the announced schedule.

Verification gap: Public announcements do not provide a continuously updated, authoritative global register of VR partnerships. Private agreements, quiet renewals, unannounced commercial terms and partnerships announced only at events may be missing. This page reports the dated primary-source evidence located in this research and does not claim completeness. Last checked October 11, 2026.
