VR hardware price changes: latest verified status
Dated evidence
- April 19, 2026 — Meta Quest prices increased in the US (confirmed). Meta’s April 16 announcement says the new prices are $349.99 for Quest 3S 128GB, $449.99 for Quest 3S 256GB and $599.99 for Quest 3 512GB. Meta attributes the change to higher costs for high-performance hardware, particularly memory chips; refurbished units also receive the new pricing, while accessories stay at their existing prices. Meta, “An Update on Meta Quest Pricing” (April 16, 2026). Meta’s product page still lists Quest 3S at $349.99/$449.99 by storage, confirming the post-increase US list price, not a temporary sale. - April 16, 2026 — independent confirmation and market context. Reuters reported the same US increases, including the prior $299.99 price for Quest 3S 128GB and a $100 increase for Quest 3 512GB. It linked the pressure to tight memory-chip supply and rising AI-infrastructure demand. The component-market explanation is Reuters’ reporting context; Meta’s own stated reason is the hardware-cost increase above. Reuters, “Meta to raise Quest VR headset prices in US on rising component costs” (April 16, 2026; updated April 16, 2026).
- March 2025 — Sony PS VR2 price reduction (confirmed, historical). Sony announced that, starting in March 2025, the recommended US price for PS VR2 and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle would be $399.99, with timing and bundle availability varying by country or region. This is the latest dated PS VR2-specific price change I could verify—not a claim that every retailer has stock or that the price is global. PlayStation Blog, “A great new price for PlayStation VR2” (February 27, 2025).
- Apple Vision Pro — no newer price change verified here. Apple’s January 8, 2024 launch release set the US starting price at $3,499 for 256GB. Apple’s current product page checked for this article promotes the M5 model and a Buy link but did not expose a price in the fetched page, so that historical launch figure should not be presented as a current quote. Apple Newsroom, “Apple Vision Pro available in the U.S. on February 2” (January 8, 2024); Apple, “Apple Vision Pro” product page (checked October 11, 2026).
What the changes mean
For a buyer comparing mainstream standalone VR, the verified direction is not uniform: Quest became more expensive in 2026, while PS VR2’s last announced RRP move was downward in 2025. Compare storage and bundle contents as well as headline price, and check the local retailer before purchase because Sony explicitly says regional timing and availability can vary. Do not treat retailer discounts, leaks or forum claims as manufacturer price changes. Meta’s announcement covers US pricing; it directs buyers elsewhere to local pricing, so these figures are not a worldwide price table.

Verification gap: this is a verified sample of major manufacturer announcements, not a complete global price index. I did not find a dated first-party 2026 price-change notice for Apple Vision Pro, HTC Vive, PICO or other brands in the sources checked. Regional taxes, retailer promotions, stock status and unannounced changes can differ; no rumor or leak is treated as fact.
