New XR developer tools: latest verified status
Dated evidence
- September 24, 2026 — Meta XR Simulator 207 (confirmed download). Meta describes the Windows simulator as a lightweight OpenXR runtime for simulating Meta devices and features. Version 207 adds fully supported Look and Pinch input, Meta VR Glasses simulation, webcam-driven hand tracking with per-finger pinch strength, and MP4 session recording. Meta also documents a headless mode through Meta VR CLI and Agentic Tools Skills. This is a developer simulation tool, not a claim that all simulated capabilities are available on every shipping device. Meta, “Meta XR Simulator (Windows),” updated September 24, 2026.
- August 18, 2026 — Jetpack XR SDK core libraries (beta). Google announced beta status for Jetpack SceneCore, ARCore for Jetpack XR and XR Runtime, with Jetpack Compose for XR still described as following soon. The announcement lists spatial scenes, 3D models, spatial audio, depth estimation, persistent anchors, hit testing and plane identification, plus new testing support for spatial audio, XR devices and session configuration. Google’s current documentation still labels the wider Jetpack XR libraries as part of the Android XR Developer Preview, so “beta” here applies to the named core libraries and does not mean the whole SDK is stable. Google Android Developers Blog, “Jetpack XR SDK core libraries reach beta,” August 18, 2026; Android Developers, “Develop with the Jetpack XR SDK,” current documentation (date not stated).
- October 5, 2026 — Apple’s current release track. Apple’s release index lists Xcode 27.1 RC and visionOS 27.2 beta 3 on October 5. Apple’s visionOS 27 release notes state that the visionOS 27 SDK is bundled with Xcode 27. The RC and beta labels matter: they confirm downloadable developer software, but they are not the same as a final Xcode 27.1 or visionOS 27.2 release. Apple Developer, “News — Software Releases,” October 5, 2026; Apple Developer, “visionOS 27 Release Notes,” current documentation (date not stated).
What this means for developers
The practical split is clear: Android is moving named scene, perception and runtime libraries toward beta while still warning that the broader SDK is under development; Meta is making device behavior easier to exercise without hardware; and Apple is iterating its Xcode/visionOS toolchain on a release-candidate and beta cadence. For a new project, pin exact dependency and SDK versions, test on the target headset or glasses, and treat simulator results as coverage for interaction and rendering—not proof of device-specific performance, tracking quality or store readiness.

Verification gap: This page reports the dated official material reachable on October 11, 2026. Google’s documentation did not provide a single whole-SDK stability date; Apple’s release index confirmed RC/beta builds but not a final Xcode 27.1 or visionOS 27.2 date; and Meta’s release notes are AI-summarized, so the linked package page is preferred for the Simulator details. No rumors, leaks or unannounced tools are presented as fact.
