New VR headset announcements: confirmed status
Dated evidence
- October 21, 2025 — Samsung Galaxy XR (manufacturer-confirmed availability). Samsung's announcement says Galaxy XR became available in the US at 10 p.m. ET on October 21, 2025, for $1,799.99. Samsung describes it as the first product built on Android XR, with voice, vision, and gesture interaction. This is a direct launch announcement for that market and date; it does not establish current stock or availability in every country. Samsung Newsroom, “Introducing Galaxy XR: Opening New Worlds” (October 21, 2025).
- November 12, 2025 announcement; September 14, 2026 reported retail launch — Valve Steam Frame. Valve originally said the device was set to begin shipping in early 2026. On September 14, GeekWire reported that Valve had launched the wireless standalone headset at $1,059 for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB; the first batch was to use a signup lottery. That is a dated report of a launch, not a price or stock statement reproduced from an accessible Valve checkout in this check. The official product page was live but exposed only limited text, so current inventory, the lottery result, shipping regions, and taxes remain unverified here. - September 23, 2026 announcement — Meta VR Glasses (future plan). Meta says the device will go on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99. Its announcement describes a roughly 100-gram, two-part glasses-and-pocket-compute design, a 5K micro-OLED display, and eye-and-hand input. The official price and target season are announcement facts; they are not evidence of shipping, final production specifications, or general availability in October 2026. How the three statuses differ
Available by first-party statement: Galaxy XR's cited announcement explicitly named a US availability date. Reported launch: GeekWire's report says Steam Frame launched, but this page could not inspect a readable live Valve order flow; its reported starting price and first-batch lottery are useful but should remain attributed to the outlet. Announced for later: Meta has publicly set a spring 2027 target, which may change and is not an orderable product on this evidence.
The products also target different buyers: Galaxy XR is an Android XR headset; Valve's wireless device is positioned around a Steam library; Meta is pursuing a much lighter, glasses-like form with compute off the face. Specs and prices are not directly comparable without accounting for shipping markets, included accessories, and which software library the buyer needs.
Before buying, verify the live seller page for your region, warranty and return terms, and supported content. For Steam Frame, confirm current order eligibility and stock directly; a September article's first-batch lottery details are a snapshot, not a promise of availability today.

Verification limits: No readable first-party Steam Frame checkout or later Valve launch bulletin was available in the source extraction, so retail date, reported prices, and lottery details remain attributed to GeekWire. Samsung's launch statement is US-specific; Meta's device remains planned for spring 2027. Unverified rumors about other headsets are excluded.
