Meta Quest software updates: latest verified status

Short answer: Meta’s latest dated release-note entry we could verify is Horizon OS 2.9 Public Test Channel (PTC), with rollout beginning the week of September 28, 2026. It is an early-access build for enrolled testers, not proof of a generally available stable release. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Dated evidence

What this means for Quest owners

Do not treat “PTC” as a normal stable update: Meta describes the Public Test Channel as early access to unreleased Quest software. Availability can therefore differ by enrollment, headset model and staged rollout. For a production headset, check Settings → General → Software update. Meta says Quest updates automatically when the headset is on, connected to Wi-Fi and charged; it will not update automatically while powered off or sleeping. Meta Quest Help, “Update the software for your Meta Quest” (updated approximately April 2026).

Verification gap: In this check, Meta’s release-notes page exposed a dated v2.9 PTC entry but did not expose a later dated stable/public release entry. We therefore do not claim that v2.9 is generally available, nor infer an unannounced version, feature rollout, headset support matrix or region availability beyond what Meta’s linked pages state.
