vivo Vision Discovery Edition: release status and specs

Short answer: vivo Vision is a real mixed-reality headset, not merely a rumor, but it is not a normal retail product at the time checked. vivo announced the vivo Vision Discovery Edition in China on August 21, 2025. Its Chinese product page currently says “out of stock” and offers a demo appointment; independent reporting describes bookable in-store demos rather than preorders or shipping. No official international sales or release date has been published. Last checked October 11, 2026.

What is the product?

The name needs care because early coverage often shortened it to “Vivo Vision.” vivo’s own announcement calls the device the vivo Vision Discovery Edition. The company describes it as its first mixed-reality headset and says the project had been developed over four years. vivo’s dedicated Chinese product page labels the product vivo Vision and identifies it in the footnotes as the “混合现实头显探索版” (mixed-reality headset Explorer/Discovery Edition). GSMArena therefore used “Vision Explorer Edition,” while vivo’s English newsroom uses “Vision Discovery Edition.” These are naming variants for the same announced headset, not evidence of two separately released models.

Release and availability: what is verified

QuestionVerified answer
Was a real product announced?Yes. vivo unveiled the vivo Vision Discovery Edition at its 30th-anniversary event in Dongguan, China, on August 21, 2025.
Can you buy it normally? Not on the evidence checked. vivo’s China product page shows “out of stock” and an option to reserve a demonstration.
Where could people try it?China only in the sources checked: vivo said demonstrations were available through experience zones, and specialist reports described 12 Chinese stores or zones.
Shipping date or launch price? Not officially confirmed. UploadVR reported no preorders and no shipping date; a roughly ¥10,000 figure was an executive indication reported by media, not a published retail price.
International availability?Unknown and unannounced. CNET said the device was limited to mainland-China in-store experience and had not received a response from vivo about non-China sales; Road to VR likewise found no clear out-of-China plan.

“Launch” is a source-conflict trap here. vivo’s August 21 newsroom headline describes an unveiling/launch event, while UploadVR explicitly cautioned that the headset was not yet a product for sale. The defensible status is officially unveiled, publicly demoable in China, retail release unconfirmed.

Verified hardware and software

vivo publishes a claimed headset weight of approximately 398 g, with the exact configuration affecting the result. Its page lists dual Micro-OLED displays at 3840 × 3552 per eye (described by vivo as binocular 8K), 94% DCI-P3 colour coverage, and DeltaE below 2. The company also states that each unit receives binocular brightness and colour calibration. Those are manufacturer specifications and laboratory claims, not independent test results.

The headset runs vivo’s OriginOS Vision and uses Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon XR2+ platform. vivo claims 1.5° eye-tracking precision, 26 degrees of freedom for fingertip tracking, and a 175° vertical interaction range. Its page also advertises full-colour passthrough with a claimed 13 ms latency, PCVR support, wireless projection from supported devices, spatial video and photo playback, and multiple-window workspaces. Compatibility is narrower than the marketing shorthand suggests: vivo’s footnotes say some phone projection is limited to supported vivo/iQOO phones, some functions require later OTA updates, and PC projection requires Windows 10 or later. Those conditions may change with software and should not be read as a universal Android, iPhone, or PC guarantee.

Price and buyer caveats

There is no confirmed retail price to quote. CNET repeated a converted figure of about US$1,395, while Road to VR and UploadVR traced the more cautious formulation to reports that vivo executives said the price could be around ¥10,000. That is a possible target, not a sale price. Do not treat marketplace listings, videos, or import offers as proof of official availability, warranty coverage, language support, or an international model.

For now, this page is a dated status record rather than a buying recommendation. A future retail launch would need to establish the final model name, price, shipping date, supported countries, after-sales service, software language/region support, and final specifications. Until vivo publishes those details, the safe conclusion is that vivo Vision is an officially demonstrated Chinese MR product whose commercial and global release remains unresolved.
