What the Pro hardware was designed to do
Meta positioned Quest Pro as the first device in a high-end line for collaboration and creation, not simply as a faster Quest 2. Its launch design replaced the Quest 2's Fresnel lenses with pancake optics and used dual LCDs with quantum-dot color and local dimming. Meta said the system independently controls more than 500 LED blocks and claimed 75% more contrast than Quest 2; those are maker-published comparisons, not independent measurements. The outward-facing camera system enables full-color stereoscopic passthrough, while the open-periphery fit is intended to let a wearer remain aware of the physical room. Partial magnetic light blockers are included, but that is not the same as a sealed full-immersion light interface.
Fit and input are also part of the Pro distinction: the launch guide specifies continuous IPD adjustment from 55 to 75 mm and an eye-relief dial. Each Touch Pro controller has three onboard sensors and tracks independently of the headset, according to Meta. The original box included those controllers, stylus tips, partial blockers and a charging dock, so a used listing should be checked against that package rather than assumed complete. See Meta's launch explanation for the company's stated design rationale.
Availability and support
Meta announced Quest Pro as its high-end Quest line entry in October 2022. Road to VR reported that Meta was officially winding down sales in September 2024, with remaining stock to be sold through the end of that year or until it ran out. That is a historical availability statement, not evidence of current stock. The original announcement says $1,499.99; Road to VR also reports a later reduction to $1,000, so those prices describe different points in the product’s life rather than a contradiction.
Meta’s current security-update policy lists Meta Quest Pro security updates through December 2027, while noting that this is not a guarantee of device life. This page does not infer app compatibility, feature support, or a retail source beyond those published statements.
