VR adventure games: story and exploration picks
Selection method: included games are officially described as adventure, puzzle-adventure, or narrative VR experiences and have a current official store or publisher page. Labels name the specific Meta Quest, PC VR, PlayStation VR, or Pico edition cited; compatibility with another headset or a particular connection route is not inferred.
Adventure games to consider
- Asgard’s Wrath 2 — Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S; Meta Quest store edition. Meta lists it as an action RPG and adventure in which you travel through realms, battle gods and monsters, explore a free-roaming world, and solve large-scale puzzles. Official Meta listing
- Batman: Arkham Shadow — Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S; Meta Quest store edition. Meta describes a VR Arkham entry set in Gotham, with the Rat King plot, Detective Vision investigation, gadgets and combat. The official page says it is only on Quest 3 and 3S. Official Meta game page
- Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR — Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3; Meta Quest store edition. Ubisoft describes a VR-only story with open maps, climbing and parkour, stealth, interactive characters, and missions as Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor. Official Ubisoft game page
- Moss — Separate Meta Quest, Pico, PlayStation VR, and Steam editions are linked by Polyarc. Polyarc calls it a single-player action-adventure puzzle game built for VR, combining exploration, combat, object manipulation, and puzzles around Quill. Exact supported headset generations vary by edition; use the relevant platform listing. Official Polyarc game page
- Moss: Book II — Meta Quest 2, original PlayStation VR, and Steam/PC VR editions documented by Polyarc. Polyarc’s October 2022 announcement says the Steam edition supports Index, Rift, Quest/Quest 2 through Quest Link, and HTC Vive. The cited source does not establish Quest 3/3S or PSVR2 support. - The Room VR: A Dark Matter — Meta Quest store edition; Meta lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, Quest 2 and Meta Quest. Fireproof describes a VR-exclusive puzzle adventure that begins at the British Institute of Archaeology and asks you to explore cryptic locations, examine devices, and investigate an Egyptologist’s disappearance. Its official page also links Steam and PlayStation VR editions. Official Fireproof game page Meta Quest store listing
- Red Matter 2 — Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S; Meta Quest store edition. Meta categorizes it as adventure, puzzle, and action. The official listing describes following a distress signal, infiltrating facilities, solving physical puzzles, and using tools to scan, hack, fly, and fight. Official Meta listing
- Lone Echo II — Meta Rift/Rift S PC VR edition. Meta lists it as adventure, space/universe, and narrative, with Jack’s story, zero-gravity controls, tools, challenges, and a mystery in the far future. The cited pages establish the Rift PC edition; they do not establish Quest-native availability or a particular Quest connection method. Official Meta Rift listing Official Ready At Dawn page
- The 7th Guest VR — Meta Quest; native headset. Vertigo Games describes a mystery adventure set in Stauf Mansion, with exploration, an atmospheric story, and puzzles redesigned for VR. Its official page links the Meta Quest, Steam, and PlayStation VR2 editions. Official Vertigo Games page
- I Expect You To Die 3: Cog in the Machine — Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S; Meta Quest store edition. Meta categorizes it as adventure, puzzle, and strategy and describes spy-puzzle missions, gadgets, disguises, and a VR escape room. The linked listing identifies single-user play. Store availability, supported headsets, and editions can change by region and platform. A Quest store entry, Steam PC VR edition, and PlayStation release are separate listings; check the linked platform page before buying. This guide does not assume that optional bundles or add-ons are included.
Adventure can mean story, exploration or action
The recommendations deliberately cover different interpretations of adventure: narrative journeys, environmental puzzles, exploration, platforming and action-adventure. Read the “why it fits” note under each title and choose the type of involvement you want. A puzzle-led story is a different session from a combat-heavy journey, even when both stores classify the game as adventure.
Platform scope is a second filter. Some entries are Meta Quest store editions; others are SteamVR games that need a VR-capable PC; PlayStation VR2 titles require the named PS5/VR2 version. If two releases share a title, verify the store page for your headset rather than transferring a feature from another edition. The guide is intentionally non-ranked because the official sources establish product descriptions and compatibility, not a single objective adventure score.
Make the shortlist fit your play space
- Want to sit and explore? Look for an explicit sitting or seated mode on the linked listing; do not infer it from the adventure genre.
- Want a puzzle-forward story? Favor entries whose official description mentions puzzles, objects or environmental problem-solving.
- Want action? Check the listed combat and movement mechanics, then compare supported play modes and comfort options before buying.
- Want to avoid a PC? Choose the edition linked for your platform. A Steam listing identifies the PC VR edition, not the Meta Quest store listing.
Availability and age labels can vary by region and platform. This page records the official product information checked on October 11, 2026, and does not claim that every adventure suits every player.
