Free VR games for Quest and PCVR
“Free” here means the official listing lets you get or play the base experience without buying that edition. Some free-to-play games sell add-ons or in-game items, and a paid expansion is not counted as part of the free base listing. The checks used the linked US storefront pages on October 11, 2026; availability and offers can vary by region.
Free Meta Quest store editions
- Gorilla Tag — Meta Quest store edition; Meta lists Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. The official listing has a “Get” button and describes hand-and-arm locomotion built around running, climbing and jumping with other players. It also lists optional in-game purchases, so those are not required to get the base app.
- POPULATION: ONE — Meta Quest store edition; Meta lists Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro. Meta explicitly labels it “free to play” and lists battle royale, custom sandbox maps, team modes, a single-player mode and co-op bot battles. The listing also shows optional add-ons.
- Blaston — Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro; Meta Quest store edition. Meta labels it free-to-play and describes PvP duels built around dodging incoming fire and choosing weapons; the listing also shows mixed-reality passthrough and optional in-game purchases.
- VRChat — Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro; Meta Quest store edition. The official Quest page is available with “Get,” supports those Quest platforms, and describes user-created worlds and avatars. It lists optional in-app purchases; VRChat’s system-requirements page specifies broadband internet.
Free Windows PCVR editions
The cited Steam editions run on a Windows PC and list SteamVR (or Oculus PC where specified). Meta documents Quest Link over USB-C and Air Link over Wi-Fi for PC VR, but a connection method must be supported by the exact headset and setup; this does not make a Steam/PC copy a standalone Quest app. Meta Link and Air Link guidance
- The Lab — Windows PC; SteamVR, VR Only. Valve lists a free collection of VR experiments, including Robot Repair, Longbow and Solar System; its requirements specify SteamVR and standing or room-scale play.
- Google Earth VR — Windows PC; SteamVR or Oculus PC, VR Only. Google’s official Steam listing says “Free” and describes exploring cities, landmarks, natural wonders and hand-picked destinations. The cited edition’s requirements specify SteamVR or Oculus PC.
- Propagation VR — Windows PC; SteamVR, VR Only. WanadevStudio’s official Steam page lists the base game as free and describes stationary solo survival horror. Steam separately lists paid co-op DLC and a weapon pack; those are distinct add-ons.
Ratings, user reviews and subjective scores are intentionally not used here. This selection is based on free/Get wording in an official listing, edition-specific VR requirements, and a concrete description of each use case.
What “free” means in this guide
A free listing lowers the cost of trying a title; it does not guarantee that every feature, cosmetic, course, song or expansion is included. The Quest entries here distinguish the free base app from optional in-app purchases. Propagation VR is a special case: the Steam listing marks the base solo game free, while its co-op content is a paid add-on. Read the individual source listing before assuming a particular mode or DLC is included.
Also separate the platform from the price. The four Meta links are Quest-store editions with the supported models listed on their individual pages. The Lab, Google Earth VR and Propagation VR are the Windows PC editions described by their Steam requirements. Meta Link and Air Link are documented PC-to-Quest options, but check the supported connection for your exact PC and headset before buying; do not treat a PC edition as a standalone Quest installation.
Choose by the kind of free experience you want
- Social worlds: VRChat is centered on user-created worlds and avatars, so the experience depends on the particular world and people present. Check privacy and interaction settings rather than assuming every public space is the same.
- Movement and tag: Gorilla Tag uses hand-and-arm locomotion, while Blaston is a PvP arena shooter built around dodging and weapon choices. Both are multiplayer-oriented Quest store experiences; check each listing for its connection and purchase notes.
- Competitive or cooperative shooting: POPULATION: ONE’s listing describes several modes, including squad, sandbox and bot options. Choose the mode that fits your group rather than treating “free-to-play” as a promise that every optional item is free.
- Different PCVR formats: The Lab is a collection of experiments; Google Earth VR is for exploring places; Propagation VR is a stationary solo survival-horror experience. Their Steam requirements make the PC part of the decision.
This is not a ranking by ratings or popularity. The selection is based on the official store’s free/Get description and the play style stated on the linked publisher or storefront page, checked October 11, 2026. Availability, regional storefront text and add-on catalogs can change.
Safety and content checks
Some picks involve online social spaces, multiplayer interaction, shooters or horror. Before playing—especially with a younger user—check the exact edition’s current regional age/content label, interaction and privacy notices, and optional-purchase details on its official listing. This is not an age-suitability recommendation.
