Valve Index vs Bigscreen Beyond 2

Short answer: the Valve Index suits a SteamVR setup where integrated audio and a choice of compatible SteamVR controllers matter, but its official kit requires base stations and costs $999 as listed on Steam. The Bigscreen Beyond 2 offers higher listed display resolution and a 107 g headset-only weight, but it is a headset-only SteamVR setup: base stations are not included, and controllers are separate. Price and availability are dated below. Last checked October 11, 2026.

Prices and shipping are snapshots, not guarantees. The Steam page currently shows the Index headset available at $499 while its $999 complete kit is out of stock. Bigscreen's August 31, 2026 post described most orders as taking two weeks at that time; its current product page instead displays a 1–7-business-day shipping banner. Check the seller before buying.

What the tradeoff means

Choose Valve Index when you want a conventional, expandable SteamVR setup with integrated off-ear audio and the option to use Index, Vive or Vive Pro controllers. It still needs a capable PC, external base stations and controllers; the lower headset-only price is therefore not a complete room-scale cost. These are product requirements, not a performance test.

Choose Bigscreen Beyond 2 when your priority is the listed 2560 × 2560-per-eye micro-OLED display, adjustable per-eye IPD and 107 g headset weight, and you already accept a wired Windows PC plus SteamVR base stations. Its official minimum GPU and RAM requirements are higher than the Index listing, and its light weight does not mean the whole setup is light: base stations, controllers when needed, PC and an audio solution are separate considerations.

For compatibility: this is a PC-VR comparison, not a claim that every PC-VR title behaves identically. Both products use SteamVR, so the useful category-level comparison is SteamVR access; exact game support can still vary by title, controller bindings and required peripherals. Neither is a standalone headset.

Questions

Can I reuse Valve Index accessories with Beyond 2?

Yes, Bigscreen says existing SteamVR base stations and controllers from a Valve Index or HTC Vive setup work with Beyond 2. Verify the exact accessory and software configuration with Bigscreen before purchase.

Does Beyond 2 include controllers or base stations?

No. Bigscreen lists the headset, soft strap, IPD tool, fiber-optic cable, link box and cleaning cloth in the box, and separately states that base stations are not included; controllers are also separate. See the official product page.

Which one is standalone?

Neither. Valve's listing requires a PC, and Bigscreen says Beyond 2 is driven entirely by a Windows PC with no standalone mode. Valve requirements · Bigscreen FAQ
