Apple Vision Pro vs Samsung Galaxy XR
Specs side by side
The Samsung launch announcement is dated October 21, 2025. Apple’s current 2026 technical-specifications page describes an M5 model and 750–800g weight; Apple’s older support specification page still describes an M2 model and 600–650g weight. Both positions are linked in Source conflicts.
Tradeoffs that matter
Choose Apple Vision Pro if you already use an iPhone, iPad or Mac and want Apple’s documented continuity: Apple says iCloud keeps content synced across those devices, and visionOS offers spatial apps alongside compatible iPhone and iPad apps. Its official input model is hands, eyes and voice, so a controller is not required for the core interface. The tradeoff is the unverified current price and the higher current Apple-listed headset weight; prescription users may need separately purchased ZEISS Optical Inserts. Choose Samsung Galaxy XR if Android XR, Gemini, Google Play access, a stated 109° × 100° view, lower listed headset mass and optional tracked controllers are more important. Samsung lists Android apps as working out of the box and names Galaxy Book and Samsung-device continuity requirements for particular features; those are ecosystem advantages, not a guarantee that every Android app or PC-VR title behaves like a native XR app. The dated US listing is $1,799.99 for 256GB, while the controller is an extra purchase. For PC VR: this page does not rank the category. The manufacturers’ sources used here do not establish a complete PC-VR compatibility path, minimum PC specification, or controller mapping for either product, so both entries remain unverified. “Standalone” is likewise not used as a score: both official product descriptions present built-in operating systems and batteries, but that does not answer every PC-VR use case.
Source conflicts
- Apple model, weight and battery: Apple’s current Vision Pro technical-specifications page identifies an M5 chip, 750–800g headset weight and up to 2.5 hours general use / 3 hours video. Apple’s support page still identifies an M2 chip, 600–650g and up to 2 hours general use / 2.5 hours video. The page uses the current product/specs page for the table and preserves the older support position for transparency: current Apple specs and Apple support specs.
- Apple refresh rates: the current page lists 90Hz, 96Hz, 100Hz and 120Hz; the older support page lists 90Hz, 96Hz and 100Hz. The table uses the current page: current Apple specs and Apple support specs.
Questions
Which has the sharper display on the published numbers?
Both manufacturers publish very high-resolution Micro-OLED systems, but Apple publishes a 23-million-pixel total while Samsung publishes 3,552 × 3,840 per eye and 27 million pixels. These are not identical reporting formats, so this page does not convert them into a ranking. Apple · Samsung
Do either headset include tracked controllers?
Apple lists hands, eyes and voice as input and names PlayStation VR2 Sense as a supported spatial accessory. Samsung says Galaxy XR Controllers are optional and sold separately. Apple · Samsung
Can I use glasses?
Apple says glasses are not used directly and ZEISS Optical Inserts may be needed. Samsung says most glasses or contacts can be used, but they may interfere with eye tracking; optional prescription inserts are available. Apple purchase FAQ · Samsung FAQ
