Where Quest 3S sits beside Quest 3

Quest 3S has the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform generation as Quest 3 but uses Fresnel lenses and a lower-resolution display. Quest 3 uses pancake optics and a 2,064 × 2,208-pixel-per-eye display. The Quest 3S page lists 128GB and 256GB versions; Meta's U.S. Quest 3 page listed a 512GB model at the time of our check. Use the side-by-side Quest 3 vs Quest 3S comparison if you are choosing between them.

Meta describes Quest 3S as compatible with the Quest app and game library and says Quest 3/3S-exclusive games are supported. This does not mean every title has identical image quality, performance or feature support. Check the individual app listing for current device compatibility before buying for one game.

Standalone play and PC VR are different setups

Standalone Quest apps run on the headset and do not require a PC. For PC VR, Meta's setup guide describes a USB-C Link cable or wireless Air Link. The company recommends a 5GHz Wi-Fi network for Air Link and says its Link cable should support data and power; its setup page gives cable specifications and connection steps.
