Do not treat either historical price as a live listing.
Variant and availability timeline
| Date | What the sources establish |
|---|---|
| September–October 2020 | Oculus Quest 2 was announced at a $299 starting price and shipped October 13; the launch announcement describes the new all-in-one headset, XR2 platform, 6GB RAM and 1832 × 1920-per-eye display. |
| April 18, 2024 | Meta made the 128GB model's $199 price permanent at that time. |
| September 25, 2024 onward | Meta announced Quest 2 would be discontinued as stock ran out or by the end of 2024; Meta's current product page now states “no longer available.” |
This page covers the headset hardware and its historical retail variants, not a promise that a used or third-party unit will receive every current app or system feature. Remaining listings are not verified here, and regional stock and prices can differ.
What changed from the original Quest?
Meta introduced Quest 2 as a new generation rather than only a storage refresh. Its 2020 announcement lists the Snapdragon XR2 platform and 6 GB of RAM, and says the 1,832 × 1,920-per-eye display has 50% more pixels than the first Quest. Meta also described new Touch controllers with revised ergonomics and up to four times the controller battery life of the original Touch model; that is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent endurance test. The headset added three IPD positions and was over 10% lighter by Meta's launch account. Those details help identify what changed, but individual fit still needs to be assessed in person. See the original Quest guide for the earlier model. Meta's 2020 launch announcement explains the comparison.
