How to set up PSVR2
Before you start
This guide covers the headset on a PS5 console. Update PS5 system software first. Clear a space free of furniture, pets and trip hazards, and keep the room lit without direct sunlight; Sony says the headset uses its cameras to track the surroundings. PS VR2 is not for children under 12, and Sony recommends regular breaks and following the headset’s health and safety warnings.
Actionable setup steps
- Connect the headset. Plug the supplied USB Type-C cable into the USB-C port on the front of the PS5. Turn on the PS5, then press the headset power button. Check that the headset cable between the scope and headband is firmly inserted.
- Connect audio if wanted. Plug the supplied stereo headphones into the headset, or use another supported audio device.
- Pair the Sense controllers. Connect the right controller to the PS5 with the supplied USB cable, turn on the console, and press its PS button. Repeat for the left controller. Let both charge, then unplug them and press the headset function button.
- Put on and fit the headset. Pull the scope fully out. Hold the rear headband-release button, slide the band over the lower back of your head, and turn the adjustment dial to tighten. Bring the scope toward your face and use the lens-adjustment dial until your eyes sit in the middle of the lenses. Glasses can remain on; do not force the scope against them. Use the on-screen visibility adjustment if the image is unclear. Sony’s fitting instructions say the headband should sit close to your ears and not high on your head.
- Secure the controllers. Put the wrist straps on before picking up the controllers and follow the on-screen button tutorial.
- Calibrate eye tracking. Follow the moving dot without moving your head. If it behaves inaccurately later, open Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Eye Tracking and choose Adjust Eye Tracking.
- Create the play area. Scan the room with the headset cameras, set the floor height if prompted, and keep the boundary conservative. In use, press the function button for see-through surroundings mode. To redo it later, open Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2 > Play Area > Set Play Area.
Informational: PS5 versus PC
The headset does not plug directly into a PC as a PS5 setup. For Windows PC VR, Sony’s separate PC guide requires the PS VR2 PC adapter, a directly connected USB 3.0 Type-A port, a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, the adapter’s AC power, and the free PlayStation VR2 App plus SteamVR. The Sense controllers pair to the PC individually over Bluetooth. PC feature support differs from PS5, so do not assume the console setup or every PS5 feature carries over.
Low-risk checks if setup stalls
- Re-seat the supplied headset cable and confirm the PS5 and headset are powered on.
- Reconnect each controller by USB and press its PS button; charge it before repeating Bluetooth or pairing steps.
- If tracking or the boundary is wrong, improve room lighting, remove direct sunlight, then reset the play area. Sony’s setup page lists clearing play-area data as a later step if resetting does not resolve a game’s behavior.
- For lenses, disconnect the headset and turn the controllers off first. Sony says to use only a soft, dry cloth made for lenses; do not use paper products, water droplets, alcohol, thinner, benzine, wipes or chemically treated cloths. Do not open the headset—use PlayStation Support or repairs for hardware faults.
