Resident Evil Village VR Mode
What the VR Mode includes
Capcom describes VR Mode as a way to play all of Resident Evil Village as Ethan Winters through PlayStation VR2. The company says the add-on is free, but the full PS5 game is required to play the mode. There is also a separate VR Mode demo for people who do not own the base game, which provides a way to try the experience without confusing the demo with the paid game requirement.
Capcom highlights motion-control actions designed around the PS VR2 Sense controllers: readying a weapon, holding an arm up to block, reloading magazines, using a knife, and holding two guns at once. Its official page also describes eye tracking, 3D audio and a 4K HDR display as part of the VR2 experience. These are Capcom’s feature descriptions, not a performance test or a guarantee about individual display conditions.
The official Capcom page names a VR Tutorial and Shooting Range. It says players can access these from the title screen after starting and playing the main story for some time. For someone new to the mode, that means the tutorial is an in-game learning feature—not a separate headset app—and the range is tied to having begun the game.
Which hardware and edition are required?
- Console: Capcom identifies VR Mode as DLC for the PlayStation 5 version of Resident Evil Village.
- Headset and controllers: PlayStation Store says a PS VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers are required. It lists sitting and standing play styles; optional vibration and trigger effects are also specified.
- Base game: the full version of Resident Evil Village is required for the VR Mode add-on. The separate demo is the exception for players who want to try it without owning the full game.
- Other platforms: the official Capcom and PlayStation sources cited here verify PS5 with PS VR2. They do not verify a standalone headset release or a PCVR version.
Extra-content limits
The PlayStation Store notes that some add-ons are only partially supported in VR Mode. It specifically says The Winters’ Expansion, The Mercenaries and the Extra Content Shop All Access Voucher contents are not supported; certain items from the Trauma Pack and Survival Resources Pack are also described as partial. If you are buying DLC for use in VR, check the current PlayStation product page rather than assuming every Village add-on works in this mode.
This boundary also explains why the add-on’s title matters: “Resident Evil Village VR Mode” is not a standalone game purchase, even though Capcom provides a separate demo. The mode is attached to the PS5 base game and the PS VR2 ecosystem.
Before you download
Confirm that you own the PS5 edition of Resident Evil Village, have both required VR2 components, and understand which extra-content packs are unsupported or partial. If you only want to sample the VR experience, look for Capcom’s separate VR Mode demo. The PlayStation listing identifies sitting and standing play; this guide does not claim a room-scale option for this mode.
The requirements and feature notes above were checked against official Capcom and PlayStation pages on October 11, 2026. No Quest, PCVR, rating or performance claim is made.
